dendrological park lazdukalni

I've been a regular visitor to Latvia and stay in a property a stones throw from the park. It has a wide variety of trees most labelled with their variety. There is an attractive pond in which you will hear noisy frogs in the summer. Most of the park is on a hillside and at the top of the hill sits a viewing tower which has been work in progress over the last few years but could now be considered finished. The park would be particularly interesting to birdwatchers, I've regularly seen woodpeckers in action and many other species I've never seen before. The park is best accessed from the main Daugavpils highway.Driving from Ogre town head east towards Daugavpils turn left at the junction just past the Elvi / Domo supermarket (immediaetly before the impressive "Ogre" sign on the incoming side of road) Having turned left you will find a field on your right side) drive straight on and as you start climb a hill turn left following the sign for the park, after approx 1 km you will come to a three way junction with triangular island with a wooden sign for Lazdukaln on your left. Turn left up the hill and after 100m turn into parking area by tower.

Nice place for walks, beautiful landscapes, interesting plants, places for a picnick, swings. Somewhat steep slope, might be difficult for wheels (prams or chairs). But there may be improvements since last year.
