Sychrov Castle is about an hour outside of Prague. It's an 18th-century aristocratic residence built in the Neo-Gothic style and is well worth the trip. Our tour included an organ recital in the chapel, a tour of the castle, a walk through the gardens, and dinner in the Orangery. The property is beautiful and you're able to get up close to it. Dinner was excellent. My only complaint with the Orangery is that it can get quite loud in there with a large group.

Not the best one in Czech. But rare one in terms of working all year long. Has nice park to walk in.

This is very nice and really big castle. It's placed in a huge and very old garden with enormous trees. But you can find there some lovely discreet places to take a rest. I liked cafe located in nice orangery building. There are some tours organised. You can sea the treasury, first or second floor interiors and so on. During holidays there are many knight tournaments organised around. Description of the castle you can find here http://www.zamek-sychrov.cz/en/

Was an extra on our tour but would definitely recommend this castle visit, a very relaxing and enjoyable tour with a very interesting history. The castle itself has many of its original features and each room you entered was a delight, with its rich interiors. We then had a leisurely walk along a beautiful wooded park with the most beautiful trees leading us to what would have been a summer house, the Orangerie, where we enjoyed a beautiful lunch. The service and food was excellent.

Sychrov Castle is 1 hour from Prague & we saw it on an optional tour. The beauty of this Castle is in the wood worked ceilings, walls, floors and built in furniture. Master carver, Petr Busek, worked on the castle for 32 years to achieve the luxurious effects. Exotic woods were carved and applied to ceilings, used in staircases and furniture. The floors were laid in patterns with varying types of wood. The etched and painted glass in the dining room is spectacular and features female figures elaborately dressed, knights on horseback and religious figures in bright colors. Following our tour & organ recital in the chapel, we enjoyed a delicious dinner in the Orangery, which was the former greenhouse of the estate. There is a website with admission prices & hours. Our tour did not break out the costs, but it was well worth the expenditure.

This place is about an hour away from Prague and would make an excelllent day trip. The castle in neogothic style was owned by the French Rohan family and was reconstructed with great care . The tour through the castle takes about 50 minutes, you can also visit the beautiful park and have coffee and cake in the Orangerie at the park or have lunch at the restaurant in front of the castle. You could then continue your trip to Hruba Skala - about 20 minutes by car - which is a great starting point for hikes in the Czech Paradise region.

Visited Sychrov Castle with wife while traveling in April 2012Highly recommended.Very interesting castle - outside and inside - worthy of attention. The architecture, rich interiors and portraits in his lifetime collection of the French nobility - leave an impression.Little corner of France in the Czech provinces.

This excursion was offered from our river cruise on Grand Circle Travel, and I recommend it. I didn't know a thing about it, but we had an excellent guide that described the French family taking it over in the 19th century for more than 100 years. There are beautiful, authentic furniture pieces, and you get a realistic view of life at the time. And best of all - it wasn't crowded with tons of tourists as with other sights. It is located about 1.5 hours from Prague, and it is a nice drive through beautiful scenery, with a view to the hills. This is well worth a visit, most of all to get away from the HUGE crowds in Prague itself.

We toured this castle with a group from Grand Circle Travel. It is an incredibly well-preserved castle on beautiful grounds. Note the sound-deadening (for horses' hoofs) circles of wood in the floor of the entrance to the castle. The woodwork in this castle is truly incredible, and it was all done by one artisan over a period of 38 years! We ate dinner in the pavilion, several hundred yards from the castle, with a great view of the castle. Dinner was so-so, but the setting was great.

I toured Sychrov Castle in October 2010 as part of a Grand Circle Tour group. Arriving in the late afternoon, we had the castle to ourselves. The castle keeper actually followed our tour and locked up each room as we departed. The castle is in amazing condition; its interiors and artifacts are superb. Our guide was very informative and allowed our group to take hundreds of photographs of the furnishings, artwork, even the architectural features and door hinges! All of her anecdotes about life in the castle, its inhabitants and its treasures were magnificent. A delicious dinner at the restaurant followed our tour. Our visit to Sychrov Castle was a highpoint of our tour for this history and architecture lover.

It´s a real fairy-tale castle where you´ll look round the corner awaiting a king or a queen. It´s amazing not only from outside but mainly inside. Many fairy-tales were made there. Several festivals and other public actions are held in castle premises. It is also a favorite place for weddings.
