I was lucky enough to visit during the annual harvest. Music, dancing, official cutting of the vine and crowning of the 'wine queen'. Very busy but a great atmosphere. The museum itself is free to look around and it's only 4 Euros to try 3 wines. As I decided to buy a bottle (9 Euros) the tasting was free. Very knowledgeable and friendly staff. Definitely worth a visit to discover the history and taste the local produce.

When in Maribor you can’t miss this place. Guinness World Records declares Stara Trta at least 385 years old and possibly over 400 years old, making it the world’s oldest grape-producing vine. Inside there’s a small two-room museum (free entry) that opens until 6 pm in winter and 8 pm in summer. The display focuses on Stara Trta’s history and Slovenian Styria’s viniculture, informative but not exactly interesting. If asked, the friendly staff could also let you taste local white wines from the Podravje region. If you liked them, you should buy some as souvenirs; the average price per bottle is only 10 euro.

I atteded a business 'reception' here, it was lovey. They arranged costumed folk music and dancing, introduction to the Slovenian wine region and the historic vine and wine tasting, our hotel arranged food (Vita Ruse). There is some interesting information, and a display of old artifacts and a small shop which sells wine and souvenirs.

This is the oldest grape vine in the world which survived centuries of mishandling, 2 world wars, etc. The entrance to the museum is free and here you can get a lot of information regarding vine tradition in this part of the world. The vine from this grapes is the protocollar vine of city of Maribor and the offsprings of this plant are very rare.

Maribor is a cool place with oldest greape vine in the world. Cheapest way to visit every attraction is by using Maribor Cit Card.

There is no ticket. Entrance to museum is free! I can't say that excursion is so interesting just information about different kinds of grapes and wine. But you can taste the most popular wines (and also buy it) in Maribor and the price of tasting is not more then 5-7 eur.

We went here on a Saturday lunch time interested to see the old grape vine and hoping to learn a bit more about it. Unfortunately the grape vine had still not come out due to the extended winter this year but its good to see anyway. The museum was ok, but I am not sure what was happening in Slovenia that day as everywhere was really quiet, and the museum was no exception. There were bottles of wine there but no chance for wine tasting, which was a bit disappointing, though I do not think this is always the case. There is a cheap enough place next door however.Overall this place is worth a visit and is probably better on a busier day, though I would have thought a Saturday would be one of those days.

I've seen the vine many times, even in the days before the visitors' centre was built. It is quite interesting to see a vine which is so old. You might not imagine it is interesting, but it is. The new centre inside the building tries to put the whole wine growing thing in context and it is certainly worthwhile going in.

Two weeks ago we stopped on the way through Maribor in this pleasant shop & museum. Check the oldest vine, then get guidance from the helpful stuff and taste wine before you buy it.

My husband and I went to Maribor specifically to see the oldest documented vine and it was lovely. Stara Trta was just as good and we left with several bottles of wine. :-)
