In June 2014 we took a boat to Château du Taureau, an island fortress while we were staying in Brittany. It is certainly a surprising place situated in the Baie de Morlaix. It has had many different uses in its history, from defending the coast from marauding English attackers, to imprisoning some of the first French Revolutionaries, and was occupied by German forces during WWII. Worth noting is that sadly it is not accessible by wheelchair, as there are steps from the boat to the entrance, and in between all levels of the building. I do have a short video to give you a better idea: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=niZQtkCnXFw if this is of interest?The commentary is all in French (as expected), both on the boat and also at the Château, although there are descriptive panels in English alongside the French versions at all points of interest. I'd recommend this for parents (or children) who enjoy being pirates as there is a dressing up box in the building. Hopefully the weather will be as kind to you as it was for us.

The boat trip from Carantec beach is a must if you are spending a few days in the area. We were fortunate enough to do this visit on a sunny day, and saw some amazing scenery in the Baie de Morlaix (which is beautiful), learning about pirates and influences on Hergé for Tintin, and lots more. The Introduction and historical speech to le Chateau is very interesting and well presented. We then had forty minutes or so to wander round and let our imaginations wonder!A great visit for kids and adults alike!

Superb castle to visit, great for kids (any age suitable). If you could attend one, choose a theatrical visit, it is much more interesting then the others

After a forty minute boat trip from Le Diben (port of Plougasnou) we reached this wonderful fortress. It looks like a scaled down version of Fort Boyard. The guide gave us a very clear picture of the history of fortress and then we were free to roam. You can easily imagine what life would have been like for a prisoner of soldier inside this building. The 360 degree view from the terrace was great. A visit to be recommended, specifically for boys with sufficient imagination.

Décor superbe et sauvage. Je n'ai pas été sur l'ile mais même de la côte le point de vue vaut le déplacement surtout la petite ile où il a un phare et une petite habitation qui est louée longtemps à l'avance. Tout est beau en Bretagne

Après une jolie balade en bateau dans la baie de Morlaix, belle visite d'un endroit impressionnant. Explications très intéressantes et très bon accueil. Les paysages marins et terrestres autour du fort sont très beaux.

leider waren die offiziellen Boote ausgebucht (Buchung in der Hauptsaison dringend notwendig), also haben wir ein Seekajak gemietet und sind gepaddelt - auch für Ungeübte machbar -eine halbe Stunde hin - eine Stunde zurück (OK - wir hatten auch perfektes Wetter und kaum Seegang) - da das offizielle Boot weg war - hatten wir (Familie mit 2 Kindern) die Burg ganz für uns allein - einfach toll

Après une petite balade d'une heure dans la baie de Morlaix.......avec des phoques si on a un peu de chance et un capitaine collé à ses jumelles.....on arrive sur ce rocher avec château perché.Monument classé. Un commentaire de 20 minutes et un peu plus de 30 minutes pour déambuler tout seul. Très belle vue de la terrasse. Le temps restant reste court si l'on veut vraiment prendre la peine de lire tous les panneaux installés dans chacune des salles.a voir cependant. Le château du Taureau est le pendant de Fort Boyard au large de la Rochelle, système de protection, mais n'a quasiment jamais servi.

très belle promenade en mer avec commentaire génial du capitaine du bateau, superbe vue sur Carantec , Roscoff, ile d'Houët et nombreux rochers habités par les oiseaux : GENIAL !!!!à faire

Super site et découverte originale via la troupe de théâtre. Seul bémol : une fois la représentation finie dans la cour, quasiment pas de temps restant avant le retour du bateau pour visiter le reste du site! (15 mn max)

belle découverte avec une superbe mise en scène, retraçant une partie sombre de ce monument et son histoire à travers les temps , belle rénovation d'un édifice ou j'ai eu l'occasion de participer à un buffet sous un beau soleil.

Une belle restauration, un lieu chargé d'histoire et une vue superbe sur la baie de Morlaix, pour une bien agréable mise en valeur de l'ensemble...un regret, il n'est pas possible, aujourd'hui d'effectuer un circuit partant du port de Morlaix, via la baie avec une escale au château , puis direction Roscoff pour une visite libre ou commentée, retour sur Morlaix par le Ter touristique pour un final par un passage sur le viaduc.....
