This village was one of the most beautiful that I have been to. It is on a beautiful river and the shops, cafes and bars are cute, friendly and have lovely views.

This was my second visit to Pont Aven and I left feeling that one visit had probably been enough. It is a pretty little town, orientated around an attractive river crossing and full of arty shops, some of which display some very interesting work. However, it is very small with just two streets that are really of interest. I guess it depends on your temperament whether you will find enough reward in this to balance the long, glacial traffic queues, the pitifully inadequate parking and the heaving throngs of British tourists.I visited on a market day and have to say that the majority of stalls seemed to stock tat aimed firmly at the British - upmarket tat maybe but tat none-the-less. Obviously, the Brit-luring plan is proving effective - I hardly heard a non-English voice among the uncomfortably packed-in, shuffling masses. In summary, would say Pont Aven is a must if you have not been in the area before or if you are intending to browse the many arty/crafty shops at length. But if you just want a quick wander, maybe think about arriving very early in the day or even outside of the holiday season.

We stopped for a quick walk around - very pleasant worth a visit. Pretty bridges and interesting architecture.

A beautiful little town on the river. Lot's of galleries and places to eat. Great for a walk or just to sit and watch the world go by.

Beautiful place to walk round even with young children. Massive fish in the estuary for them to watch jump to the surface. Lots of art shops, biscuit and chocolate shops. Little children play area, free parking and super restaurant with pink umbrellas at the end of the parking area where cars can turn round.

The small village located along the Aven river, in the Brittany's cost is a Pearl by the Atlantic ocean. The West cost of France is plenty of tradition, that reflects in every small charming shop or home. There is a wide variety of exquisite local food, represented mostly by the Crêpes (a very thin pancake), sea food and an array of jams, preserves, pastrys and of course, good and affordable french wine. But you can also taste the local drink: Cider. In the past the small town was a popular vacation destination for famous painters, such as Paul Gauguin, looking for inspiration for their paintings. Today you can find their heritage among the many art galleries and crafts. Very charming!

Pont Aven, having been the site of an art school founded by Gauguin, us a very popular and busy place. Park as far down the estuary as possible to enjoy the walk back into town,Then cross through the main Intersection and on the right hand side you will find the modest knee-height sign indicating the XAVIER GRALL WALK . Judging by the relative quiet of the walk, it's Pont a Avens hidden gem! He was a well- known Breton poet in the 1930,s.It is a stroll behind the high street alongside the river, criss-crossed with charming bridges with huge (how do they do them?) hanging baskets of flowers. A great view of how the original merchants would have moved their goods down to the port. It's only about 1 km long and loops back into the busy Main Street, but what a beautiful stroll.

Beware Tuesday it is market day and the place is heaving and parking is more difficult than usual especially around the market area. If you park overnight Monday you could find yourself trapped until early afternoon. Town itself needs but a morning to see until the brilliant museum re opens. Restaurants bars send cafés operate eccentric opening times until the French holiday time kicks in. It is what it is in the season, during the day a tourist town, in the evening it gets back to a tranquil little port.

A beautiful spot, with its walks either side of the river, old bridges and mills, an array of shops specializing in paintings, connections with Gaugin and its own school of painting. We happened to overlap with a visit by a local vintage car club and were rewarded with some fascinating photos. We went in May and access was easy but we can imagine it would be crowded in high season.

We found Pont-Aven by chance and glad that we did. A very attractive and well kept village which luckily we were able to see with the sun shining.

Lovely historic village. If you're into art it's the place for you but if you just fancy a relaxing stroll it fits the bill too. Very scenic and some great restaurants dotted all over the place.
