One has to be aware of the tide state and then having discovered all is well, it is well worth visiting.

This fort is currently being reconstructed after a long time of neglect. Due to that, not all the rooms are open to public, and that in quite a small fort. But still, you can see how the fort was operating, get nice views of Saint-Malo, and learn the complete complex of the city defenses from the pictures in one of the rooms. The guides are friendly and ready to help, both in French and in English. After restoration works will have been completed, the fort should become a real marvel. To get into the fort you need to climb some steps carved in the rock, and then a set of wooden stairs - be ready. After you have walked to the fort during the ebb tide, it is really amazing to see how the fort becomes quite a distant island when the tide rises. Actually, no less impressive than watching the tide in Mont Saint-Michel.

First visited here as part of a school trip so good to see the fort again as we are usually around when its cut off by the tide. Guided tour is good and there are info sheets, in many languages, for diy'ers.Great views across to St Malo and the bay and a bracing wind! Probably not for those with mobility problems.

Little fort located on a rock in front of St. Malo city walls. It takes a pleasant 5- 7 minutes walk from St. Malo rampants to the Fort du Petit Be when the tide is low, just be careful and do what locals do, you will be safe this way!Once reached the fort, you will have great views ofer St. Malo, the island where Fort Nacional is located and even Dinard in the distance, so you will be rewarded for the risk you took.So the short walk pays off not for what Fort du Petit Be has to offer inside (entrace fee is 5 Euro), but for the beautiful views of the islands, Atlantic Ocean and St. Malo city.

As others have pointed out, Petit Be has access limited to the lowest tides each month. It can be dangerous so care is needed. It's definitely worth a stroll over.If you do happen to get stuck over there, just wait it out.

To get to the Petit Be you need to wait until low tide and a foot path to the island will appear, ensure you know the local tides as if the tide starts to come in the pathway will quickly disappear and you will then need to wait on the island until the next low tide.Access to the island is via a shale and stone pathway that can be slippery as it is covered over every time the tide comes in, then there is a walk up a fairly steep hill.Once on the island there is a circular path that takes you up towards the right and brings you full circle and down the island almost where you begin. On the island is a small memorial cross and you can view across the bay towards the harbour, back to the mainland and around to the other smaller islands. There are no facilities on the island (only a few bins) and the crossing to the Fort is only open for a limited time in high summer season, when we visited we walked around the first island but the Fort wasn’t open so we didn’t cross that far.

the tide comes in extremely quickly as in 15 minutes quickly. My mother and I were almost stranded, had to wade through knee deep water on the stone causeway. 3 people were stranded and had to be rescued by boat.
