We were there in June 2014 and the flowers were in bloom along the ramparts. The colors and designs were magnificent. French gardens are always a treat and this walk did not disappoint.

This is a great place. The medieval Vannes and all its wonderful sights is a joy. These manicured gardens and walkways are so picturesque and I highly recommend a visit.Once you have walked along the lovely Remparts De Vannes head into the main centre to the markets, the street seating in the coffee shops (avoid one in particular see my other review) and marvel at the fabulous architecture noting in the medieval section how well kept the buildings are. Little side lanes accentuated by unusual shops offering a wide range of food and goods. Cobbled streets and also at this time of year wonderful Christmas lights adorning the streets and shops. Vannes is full of character, friendly people and an experience to be enjoyed. Well worth a visit.

This very old town is worth a visit. The Henri1V house and surrounding architecture is interesting. Walk around parts of the ramparts and enjoy the views.

Having been to Brittany many times, how is it that I have never been to Vannes before. What a wonderful place. Within easy walking distance of the railway station is a street with dozens of ancient half-timbered houses leading to the ramparts of the old town with towers and gateways. Then there is the charming 'lavoir' on the banks of the Marle. What else! And to finish a glass of Breton stout inside the walls in a traffic free sunny square. I shall be back.

this has to be one of the most beautiful and well kept historic ramparts and gardens in france . the city of vanes is not that big and this attraction is set right in the middle just off the old town and the marina . well worth a mornings visit and the square behind is lovely for a morning coffee and a croissant.

These gardens under the ancient city walls are a joy to see. They are well maintained and though not as peaceful as they might be they provide an oasis to pause in when visiting this medieval city.

Really great Remparts even though to walk on the walls was only possible in one or two areas, but the views down into the gardens were well worth the climbing of the steps.

My husband and I visited Vannes while on holiday in the area. We went to the Tourist Information Office first and got a map of the town which showed the Ramparts and gave a history of all the different areas. We enjoyed the walk around as it was very pleasant and scenic with views of the gardens. We went and had some lunch in one of the squares in the old town. I'd definitely recommend a visit to Vannes if you're in the area.

The ramparts/remparts are the ideal place from which to admire the gardens. The mix of old and new within Vannes is one of the towns strong points and the great protection the walls offered the town in the past now provides an structural embrace within which many of the towns architectural gems can be found.

Stayed in Vannes for three days and visited the Remparts daily. Beautiful, but especially at night. I found them very accessible, either from the city center, or from the parking area outside them. Not sure about handicap access. Vannes is such a safe city, walking through here at night is not a problem.

While it was nice to wander the streets and view the gardens from outside the wall, the access to the ramparts (just to the left of the main gate) was closed.

the day we tried to see ramparts there was only about 80 metres accessible, good view of gardens from here.

Well preserved and enhanced by beautiful gardens, the fortifications are quite impressive. Nice to take a walk on the fortifications but also in the garden.

Vannes, a magnificent Medieval walled city, is well worth exploring for at least a day. The ancient moat has been filled and transformed into a beautiful garden, which hosts outdoor concerts, depending on the time of year. The very best outdoor market in Southern Brittany takes place within the city walls on Wednesday and Saturday mornings, mouth-watering produce, hand made cheeses, baked items and seafood paella...yum!The cathedral, right off the square, is breathtaking and if you wander about looking up, you will find all sorts of both sacred and amusing ancient carvings on the corners of the buildings...look for the naughty ladies of the night! Fab restaurants all about, especially just outside the city gates on the river inlet...best value are the prix fixe meals at lunch time.
