We spent an entire day at the old town. I love the colorful old houses and the fact that there is a lot to see there like La Petite Venise and the Unterlinden at the Dominican Church. I was actually surprised to find out that some of the houses in the movie Howl's Moving Castle were based on some of the structured there. No wonder some places look familiar. It is one of my favorite animated films.

Colmar is very tiny tiny city and I belived is smaller than Strasbourg ,some would like Strasbourg but some would like colmar,for me both need to visit but I prefer to stay on Strasbourg and took a half or one day to colmar ,the old town is lovely and much French and comfort place. Try to clear your mind and enjoy classic and special building let you feel back to historical place.

Historic old town, extensively pedestrianised and rewarding to wander around. The tourist information office has free maps on which an interesting walk around the highlights is clearly marked, with plenty of refreshment opportunities en-route. Good central car park located under the Mairie (pay on exit).

We knew nothing of this town but we googled best small towns in France and decided to go. This town was not destroyed by the War and it is so interesting and beautiful you really need to spend some time here.

A charming place to visit. Builidngs are charming, well taken care of, worth a visit...It shows us more about the past. Also has good shops for those who want to go shopping.

My favorite stop on our trip to Europe. We took Trip Advisor reviewers recommendations and skipped Strasbourg for Colmar and loved it. Narrow, winding streets, 200 year old buildings, quaint shops and F-R-E-N-C-H food. Just the right size for a 2 or 3 night stay.

We enjoyed the half day we spent in the Old Town. Though in early January a lot of the caffes and restaruants seem closed a couple of days a week. Still, it was nice.

I guess that in summer time it must be full of tourists, so go and visit this touristical spot in winter. Take your time to walk around, to see the hidden corners and the so many nice old houses.

We visited Colmar Old Town as a stop on our Viking River Cruise and really loved the Old Town. The half-timbered houses, unique shops, creative signage and beautiful flowers all gave a lovely sense of place in this old European village. Gingerbread is popular here and there are several stores that sell flavored gingerbread - a nice treat! Highly recommend that people spend a few hours here.

I love Colmar! We have visited its larger sister city of Strasbourg and the only thing Strasbourg has on Colmar is the cathedral. For an authentic city filled with timbered houses and unique architecture, my money is on Colmar! We toured the city on our own for a day and a half in early January and there were few crowds so I am sure that helped to make our time more enjoyable... but the city feels truly genuine and not just a town dressed up for show. It feels more French than Strasbourg as well and much less commercial. I hope to return in the summer and spend the night again to wander the streets and alcoves to enjoy this lovely city!!

A MUST to visit along the wine route AND for the Christmas Market. My favourite one!!! 5 Christmas markets spread out in walking distance, not too commercial, very nice atmosphere, all the house are with so much love decorated!

Naturally,it is full of tourists and souvenir shops, but the old houses and christmas market with its 5 distinct centers are worth visiting. It is better to arrive in the morning for parking reasons and at lunch to be in Little Venice, which is close by.Shopping here is more expensive than in the german counterpart, be advised.

Don't know what to write but this is like walking in an open air/ outdoors museum.. Little roads, narrow passes. So much to see and do. When for lunch just take a terrace (even at late September the weather was fine) for some Flamm Kuchen and Riesling wine. We took our bikes and parked at seveal place then to walk around as it seems the whole area is quite large..

We were visiting Strasbourg for Christmas Markets and did this as a day trip out. The old town is charming, but essentially the same as Petite France in Strasbourg. The markets and decor are not nearly as extensive as in Strasbourg, and consequently, basic tourist needs (like directional signs and easy to find restrooms) are not dealt with well. Next time, I'd give this a miss and stick to Strasbourg for the markets.
