kaali meteoritics and limestone museum

The Kaali Meteorite crater is in a very tranquil spot deep in woodlands. It is a bit tricky to get to. Best option is a bus from Kuressaare 15km south of here. Some buses stop at Kaali, but most use the main road across the island. If you are on one of these you will have a 2km walk from the main road. There are around 9 meteor craters here but all except the main one are overgrown. Steps lead up to the crater rim where you get a fine view of the pool and tree lined bank surrounding it. It is surprisingly echoey once you are inside and there are signs which describe the event. Apparently the meteor hit the Earth 4000yrs ago. This is one of the few places in the world where you can see such a thing.

A really unique place. Amazing to watch down in the meteorite crater and imagine the impact. Access to the crater is free, but there is a small fee for the informative museum. Reachable by bike (1 hour) or bus (with a walk a couple of kilometres) from Kuressaare.

Заехали по пути в отель Georg Ots, специально бы наверно не стоило ехать. Был октябрь месяц, дождик накрапывал и безлюдно вокруг. В магазине рядом, сотрудник открыла комнату с сувенирами и исторической и географической информацией по кратерам.

Fastän platsen inte tar lång tid att se är den intressant. Man behöver inte klättra längs med kraterväggen utan bra trappor finns. Akustiken är fantastisk.

Я могу ошибаться, так как мне экскурсию проводил местный житель, а не профессиональный гид. Так вот, около 3000 лет назад на Эстонию упал метеорит. Небольшой, около 3 метров в диаметре. Только этот "малыш" оставил после себя огромный кратер, который наполнился дождевой и всякой другой водой, и получилось это озеро. Кратер идеально круглый, будто циркулем начерчен. Очень красивое место. Нужно увидеть своими собственными глазами.
