The town hall square is definitevly fantastic. You can turn all around and you feel it so nice in all details: the hall, the statue of the two kissers, the building, the big open space.. altough I was here in January, with snow and the empty square, in my mnd comes summer, when the place is full of people chatting and enjoying.I suggest it for a visit!

We visited there on January. Christmas lights were beatiful. You can feel the history of Tartu there. I'll bet during summer it would be great to spend some time on town hall square.

We really enjoyed being in Tartu town hall square during December, the colors of the buildings are pastel shades, the area is clean, people are friendly, nice restaurants and the bars are close by.

This is definitely small but feels so good to stand at the center of it and move 360 degrees! In just 15 secs of rotation time one can find several colors of life and find various activities of people from kids to the old people. The place itself gives a positive vibration. It remains clean with all around great restaurants, cafe etc. This year the decoration of Christmas is amazing with a newly made jungle kind of things with many many Estonian animals. This is pretty kool for the kids and one can find them roaming around this temporary forest.Overall a lovely place all the time but during Christmas a must see destination :)

Lovely buildings and beautiful flowers, plus a well loved fountain and sculpture. A good place to hang out in the sunshine.

We are staying in Tallinn for the summer and several had suggested Tartu as another "adventure". Then others said, "Why go to Tartu? It's just like Tallinn." Well, we went anyway since it was our anniversary. I adore Old Town Tallinn, never get tired of it but I enjoyed Tartu because it wasn't as big and there was still plenty of neat things to see! The Town Hall is really beautiful, love the pink! The Kissing Statue is so pretty with the fountain, the entire scene is picturesque! You can stand in either end and get fantastic pictures, postcard perfect. The Leaning House is just a few steps down the way, you can see museum pieces in it and also tour the Town Hall. So many restaurants and this time of year they almost all have patio seating, so nice. The vendors were very friendly, especially enjoyed our talk with some girls in one of the shops. They were hilarious.Beautiful square!

Raekoja plats lies on a southwest-to-northeast line, which is why the northern side of the square is lined with restaurants - the southern side is mostly in the shade. The pink town hall is the most memorable element. Other key features are: The Kissing Students (there's an annual timed competition for couples to try and emulate and hold the statue's pose for as long as possible);Arcsild - the Soviet arched concrete bridge over the Emajõgi River. This eyesore was the Soviet replacement for the truly iconic Kivisild - Stone bridge - of old Tartu, which the Red Army destroyed in 1941 (blew up or bombed?). University students, usually inebriated, now try to cross the arch as a graduation ritual; The Leaning House - now an art museum - that has a lean angle comparable to Pisa's Tower.

The town hall is a beautiful building, the fountain in front so special, you have to get a kiss from the lady in your company. But watch out, if you have drunken to much, the houses at the end of the square are so much as on one side like tower of Pisa.

Just hang aroung there - lots of places to eat and have a drink. And loads of people in the later hours who walk from one bar to another.

Not the biggest in the world but very beautiful, with a lot of locals and places to eat or to have a break, and the town hall is the protagonist of the square with his statue of the kissing students.

The Town hall square is beautifully located in the centre of the Old Town and walking street. The fountain with a couple holding each other, in front of the town Hall, makes a good impression of Tartu, which is also called the city of "Good Thoughts"

Although this square is not as big as in the larger cities such as Tallinn it is still quite beautiful. The buildings are all nicely painted and the square is lined with cafe's and shops. It is a great place to have lunch/dinner or just people watch. There is wifi available throughout the square as well. The town hall with the kissing statue in front makes for a great photo op.

The square is nice, with the town hall, the statue and all the cafes and restaurants. A nice place to have a rest on one of the terraces.

This square could be in Italy. The houses, the fountain, the coffee shops and restaurants, so beautiful, so elegant and in the evening also beautifully lit. The best thing to do is to go to one of the cafeteria terraces and have a drink or a bite and just admire the square.

...a view in to the old Tartu. Nice to visit and enjoy a beer but not much going on. Food is nice here also.
