The ultra-central ortodox church, seeted accros the greek-catholic church St. Nicholas is an iconic church for Oradea, showing every day the real Moon phases in real time.

The style of this church is late-Baroque with marked Classical elements. It is also known as the ‘Moon church’ due to the mechanism installed in the church tower in 1793. The mechanism that spins the moon is supposed to complete a full rotation around its axis in 28 days, indicating the moon phases, according to the daily cycle marked by the clock mechanism.

As I said this church it is a masterpiece of XVIII century arhitecture and for shure a must to see in Oradea City in Romania. With his unique clock and mechanics in the church tower, who indicated the moon position! Still working!!! The churc was restaurated very nice and can be visited every day! They have there religious services in everyday! It was the first romanian orthodox stone church build in the inside part of city walls (because before, romanians are not aloud to build stone churches inside the city walls). For this reason the arhitecture of this church (outside view) it is very strong influenced by austrian style, but inside you can see a lot of byzantine influence!

One of Oradea's most long standing churches with impressive architecture. It's also a quiet place within this noisy city.

Interesting building. Here you will meet Avram Iancu( a Transylvanian hero) face in a wall picture. This monument is unique due to mechanism located on the church tower,(where there is placed a sphere with a diameter of 3 meters, this represents the Moon, painted half black, half in gold). The sphere moves in accordance with the Moon's rotation around the Earth and its shows all the moon's phases. Can see http://www.bisericaculuna.ro/

Moon Church is an interesting orthodox church located in the centre of Oradea, not far from the University, the State Theatre, river, park and shops. Once you are inside, you have the feeling God is there with you. You can buy souvenirs or say a little pray before going out again.
