If you're looking for a perfect Sunday afternoon stroll coupled with a touch of old school history then Moneypenny's is a great choice for all the family. I love taking my dog for a walk along the canal down to the lock itself and reading the material about how it all worked way back when. It's such a picturesque little place and deathly quiet, (only for the sound of the animals). Treat yourself and visit this little gem!

Pretty cottage on water.. Lovely walk along the canal.. Talked to the blacksmiths who had a separate workshop beside the cottage.

Took the cameras down for a very pleasing walk. I was surprised at so many photographs I managed to get despite the severe flooding on the surrounding fields. The sounds of the birds calling without the sound of traffic is nice. The canal is almost back to its former glory. The lock keepers house and gardens are lovely and well kept. This is a nice area too if you want to take the dog for a nice long peaceful walk.

The amount of foliage gives good shade from the sun if you just want to sit on the seats and chat, or you can simply walk the towpath. Great to see that's it's still there after falling into some disrepair twenty years ago.

Moneypennys Lock, Portadown,is a real step back to Bygone days, this once busy Waterway, lay for many years,Idle and Un cared for ,its locks and Canal bed overgrown,Forgotten by time, but thanks to Goverment grants and hard work by locals, this once run down waterway is slowly comming back to its former glory, its a wonderful spot for walking, cycling, and its a big hit with Anglers as well, and a nice spot to visit anytime of year....

My mum and I always take our dog for a walk out here it's beautiful and unspoiled with a cute little lock house 1/2 a mile in. Although the flys in the summer can be quite annoying, so just don't wear a lot of hairspray haha

This is the closest attraction that involves travel along the Portadown to Newry towpath. The Lock-keepers cottage is a walk of about 4 miles from the bridge at Portadown although there is a small car-park just past Tescos on the left which misses out, well the back of Tescos for a start and the car-parks. This very flat walk will bring you to Newry eventually (From Portadown town hall to Newry town hall is exactly 20 miles) and with a little bit of road walking could bring you to Warrenpoint about 27 miles in distance. A bicycle is a great way to travel with the Lock-keepers cottage the first attraction and then on to Scarva where a visitors centre and Tea-shop is generally open. If you are depending on it, phone and find out because you will have another jaunt to Poyntzpass to find the next shop. After that not much until Newry except a great walk in very peaceful if not lonely surroundings. The Portadown to Knock bridges section where anglers are positioned regularly and at intervals, and the Scarva sections are the busiest especially at weekends and holidays. When you reach Newry its not so picturesque but if you have walked the distance from portadown you will be glad enough to see it.

Easy to get to . Lovely well kept, lived in lock house with locks has lots of history . A calm , nice quiet place to visit - really worthwhile to see how things were in yester year .

We love to go here at any time of the year for a nice walk it is so peaceful with the birds singing, swans on the canal and people fishing along the banks of both the river and the canal. We usually walk from Knock Bridge to Point of White Coat the round trip takes about 1 1/2 hours.

Fantastic place to walk to, walked it many times when I was a child with my grand parents, always great to see no matter what time of year.

This is place for a quiet walk, just to sit and enjoy the beauty around you, an inspiration to artists and a refuge for the fisherman. This is not far from where I live and I never get tired of going to visit
