This old and established golf course gives you a lot of funny challenges, especially when the wind is up. Be aware of the small, almost not visible, burns crossing the fairways on hole 6 and 17. It can be a smart move not to go for the pin on those two if you have a challenging lie or line :-)A lot of nice views on the different holes overlooking the scenic bay outside Dunbar. As I did not have lunch in the clubhouse, I just can write about the service. And that was most welcome, along the members. I got the pleasure of playing with one of them on my round, together with one of his friend who was a member at Machrihanish GC.Conclusion: A great treat, good atmosphere. If you're ever in the area, you should make a visit!

First time I have played Dunbar golf course and I was completely taken by surprise. The course is a terrific test of golf, and thankfully it was a relatively calm day, you could tell it would be a real challenge in strong wind. Some fabulous holes and almost all are along the seafront which is excellent. Greens were great even at this time of year and the course was in good nick, considering the weather recently. Service at the pro shop was good and we were on the course in no time, smoothly organised. Prior to playing we had coffee and a roll, and I was pleased with my roll and square sausage which had double sausage(excellent). After the game we had lunch and I had Cullen Skink which was absolutely delicious. The menu is extensive, with some mouth watering treats of the seafood variety. Prices were reasonable too. The staff were friendly as were the members. Will probably pop back for a game soon.

I played 16 golf courses while on vacation in Scotland and Dunbar was one of my favorites. Holes 9-13 on a beautiful sunny day (Which I had) are spectacular and could possibly be one of my favorite stretches of holes in the world. Stunning golf course, cant wait to be back.

a local gem , the wind will make you choose your shots carefully, and it is a good test. The restaurant and facilities were good and the staff very friendly. We had a good "pub" lunch .

Played early afternoon in a relatively calm day by locals standards - only(!) 20mph breeze. One of 4 courses we played on our visit and Dunbar was a real highlight. Nice clubhouse serving tasty, good value food. Friendly staff and pro shop helped get us away swiftly. Course seemed heavily used with fairways a bit scrappy in places and greens not running perfectly despite the great weather. Having said that, this is a superb Links layout with some wonderful holes (fair but challenging) and fabulous views across the bay. Ok for higher handicappers but need to keep ball on the tight grass and out of the bunkers if you want to score well. I'm a 6 h'cap and got round to +4 but wife struggled a little with bunkers and large, quick greens.

This is one course you should not miss if in the area. Located right on the shoreline with the beach in play on some this is a good test of golf. Some of the fairways are quite close to each other so make sure you keep yourself aware of the odd shout of Fore.

This is a Championship links. To appreciate it, you need to be of a certain standard - I would say single figures. If the wind blows beware! Arrive on a summer's morning in good time to get a bacon roll or full cooked breakfast from the friendly staff, then head out to the testing links. Do not go on the beach at the 4th or the 12th. The catering is standard fare - well presented and reasonably priced. Do include this in your East Lothian golf itinerary. The A1 is now dualled all the way from Edinburgh, so it is just a 25 minute drive from the bypass. Golfing bliss.

We had a great time playing a round of golf at Dunbar Golf Club. From the Pro Shop manager, the course attendants and the course itself, it was an absolutely pleasurable day playing golf at Dunbar. We also got our first experience at playing in 25 mph winds coming in the back 9 along the North Sea. Good test of golf, very fair, very enjoyable.

Had a round with my wife during the Open time (2013). The course was dry burned dur to exceptionnal weather conditions but you cannot blame the course if you don't play well ;-) I've found the front 9 quite easy but one element was missing and joined us on the turn... The wind! Then it became a complete other story. What a tough course !! :-)) Anyway I really enjoy the overall experience even if I've lost a part of my game between the 9 and the 10.We finished the day having a meal and watching the Open at the clubhouse which was great. The only thing on the downside, the green fee is a bit overpriced

Thank you for your comments, we are delighted you enjoyed your time in the Clubhouse but sorry to hear you couldn’t get out on the Links. We very much welcome visitors to Dunbar Golf Club. It is only on certain days that access to the course is limited to Members and their guests - Thursday to Sunday from November to end of February. Outwith this (March to October) the only day visitors cannot play the course is a Thursday.

Nothing had prepared me for just how spectacular the setting for Dunbar Golf Club would be until we turned the car along the narrow lane leading to the charming old clubhouse. My two colleagues and I loved this place. We travelled over to Scotland for the British Open at Muirfield (July '13). There are so many great holes particularly in the stretch from the 4th thru 17th. The 4th and 17th holes were in fact my personal favorites but with some eight holes running directly alongside the ocean this is more like Pebble Beach than my home course...and that actually is Pebble Beach CA! Such a friendly place too so thanks to all concerned for making our trip such a success. Chuck Lawrence

We brought our clubs from the US to play golf everyday of two-week our trip. Dunbar Links was the last course we played, on our last day. The course is in fabulous condition-- the bunkers are deep with "funnels" that will take your ball right off the fairway and into them if you get just a wee bit close. We played with Peter, a local member, (and his dog!) who advised me on one shot that "this is a two club wind." I added the requisite two clubs and put it three feet from the pin which wouldn't have happened without Peter there. Later, my husband and I took Peter out for lunch and a drink (the dog had his outside.) Dunbar is right on the water with holes that flow along the natural terrain in a way that you think no architect was involved. It's a beautiful and graceful layout and quite tough, but very fair. Our disappointment was to play each course only once. This was one we would have liked to play again and again. (Especially with Peter and his dog as caddies!)

Thank you for your comments, naturally we are disappointed to see that you were disappointed with the condition of our course. We believe this was entirely due to the extended spell of extremely dry weather experienced across East Lothian and consequently the course became a bit stressed in places – a fate shared by other quality Links courses. We do believe however that the greens were running true and overall the course presented a real test of links golf.

This course is simply brilliant, great test of golf and amazing coastal views. The greens are good all year round but particularly good at the moment, June. Well worth it's status as Open Championship qualifier. Don't forget the club house, friendly staff and great catering. Well worth a visit.

I played this in August 2012 and t was really the best course I played on the Bobo's Annual Trek to Lose Golfballs in Scotland. We were reluctant because it can be a bit pricey but after 3.30, the green fee drops to about 39 quid. It was a joy with great views of Bass Rock and a breeze off the sea. North Berwick is better know but don't overlook this gem! And beware of the little burn in front of the first green!
