This cottage is owned by the National Trust and there is a charge for non members, however this is so worth while to see how the weavers of Kilbarchan lived and there is so much on display, as well as tartan being woven on the old loom - there is also a small hand made wooden one so that children can actually use it and know how cloth is woven. There are also small items to purchase to remember your visit to this unique village

Owned by the national Trust for Scotland this is available to members of the National Trust otherwise there is a charge. Be prepared for narrow and steep staircases. Fortunately they are quite short and can be managed taking time. it would be advisable to wear secure footwear rather than sandals or flip flops. It feels like going back in time and if you are lucky there are spinning and weaving demonstrations. There are no toilets or café but as it is so small and does not take much time even if you browse this is not a big problem. There is a café about five minutes walk towards the town. The car park is across the road although there is no official signing it appears to be where everyone parks. There is no parking outside the cottage which at main crossroad. The building itself is interesting and there are many interesting features which have survived its long history and various alterations. Full of curious items. The staff were informed and helpful. There is a sweet little garden with plants used in the dying of cloth amongst other varieties. Very satisfying short visit and I would love to take people to see this.

The village of Kilbarchan is so cute and therefore a good reason to visit in itself, but this little cottage is fascinating. The staff explained to us all about it, and we got to try out the new loom and spinning wheel as well as watching the old one being used. We learned how rag rugs are made and about the history of the Paisley mills. Kids stuff upstairs was fun as well. Thank you for a lovely visit.

An interesting, small, 300 years old cottage in the village of Kilbarchan, close to M8 near Glasgow. NT property and therefore clean, friendly and well maintained. When you come you can watch a short film explaining weaving in the region of Paisley. If you are lucky you will see the weaving done on an ancient loom in the room on the ground floor. Charming little back garden beyond. The historic village of Kilbarchan itself is quite old and nice, too. On my way out, passing the church I stopped at a large, well-stocked antique centre. All together a nice spot for a visit.

Built in 1723, this is a typical Weaver's cottage. In the 1800's there were around 800 looms in the village. The village is where the Paisley shawl pattern was created. The National Trust has done a wonderful job in preserving the cottage. It houses a 200 year old loom and a more modern one. We were able to see a demonstration on the old one which was fascinating. You really get to understanding how yarn was made and then how the looms produced cloth. It was a family business all done within the cottages. Remarkable & wonderful to see & experience.
