Wow. This is one of those places we need to treasure and keep alive. In a world where mediocrity is celebrated 'if it looks good' and where it seems that everything has to be standardised and fit the same template, the Stirling Smith is a precious nugget whose beauty lies in its eclecticism. So many wonderful things to see on so many topics. Wandering round this place is an adventure: who knows what's round the next corner?Well presented artefacts with clear, concise and informative narratives alongside them. Here you'll find stories that few , if any , other museums can or dare tell. The building is an exhibit in itself. Staff are welcoming and helpful. There's a cafe. And , joy of joys, no gift shop full of plastic tat and ephemera completely unrelated to anything to be found in the building. There are a few books for sale. Free parking. A 5 minute walk from Stirling City Centre and a 15-20 min walk from Stirling Castle. It's our duty to support places like this. Fantastic. Wonderful. Interesting. Clever. Go!

This attraction is distinctly average. It is a middle of the road provincial museum, with a few interesting exhibits, but could be better presented. The Art collection is decidedly disappointing and there are only a handful of paintings on display

Newest addition to collection is lots of cabinets filled with pewter plates. This did not fire my I imagination but can appreciate that some people must find it fascinating. The whole gallery was extremely hot with some kind of blown heating so we could not linger over the other exhibits

Review like this make us smile, because we know we are getting it right. We are glad you had such a positive experience and I remember you chatting with Peter while we were arranging the flowers for the opening. And it was good you joined us at the opening too. Hopefully we will see you again in the future.

Thnks for taking the time give us a review. Thomas Stuart Smith bequest the money to build the then named Smith Institute to house his art collection for the people of Stirling it has over the past 140 year grown to house a vast social history collection which is as you say eclectic. And you should see what is housed in the stores!!We hope you will be back soon.

Thank you for taking the time to review the Smith, you are quite correct we need updating, and are working very hard to design and fundraise and revamp the entire building. We have recently fundraise and replaced the roof.We are really glad you enjoyed the Bannockburn exhibition, it just shows what we can do with a little extra funding! Imagine what we could do with a lot?

Thank you for your review, unfotunately we are not a church, but the museum and art gallery on Dumbarton Road. I think you visited the church of the Holy Rude http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Attraction_Review-g191266-d534366-Reviews-Church_of_the_Holy_Rude-Stirling_Scotland.htmlWhich is in deed a beautiful church with outstanding stained glass windows. With thanksAdmin
