I have just returned from a 4 hour cycle from Ashbourne to Parsley Hay and return along the Tissington Trail. The surface is excellent bearing in mind all the snow we have had recently and all along you can see work being done to clear overhanging branches and the removal of saplings that are encroaching onto the path. All the way along the trail you are able to cycle side by side, I went mid week and only saw 3 other cyclists all day, weekends is a different story though when walkers cyclists and horse riders share this popular site. Whether you are walking cycling you will enjoy this fantastic trail. Well done for the information posts along the way as well.

Pick a start point and either stick to the trail or meander off and visits small villages, its a great place to learn to walk, bike ride etc...for all ages...its all so doable. Interesting places on the trail for a coffee or ice cream.

We had the most amazing wedding for our daughter and son in law. A lot of the guests were staying in local hotels around the area which we organised a coach (Warringtons of Ilam who were excellent) to pick up and take home after the wedding. The house is beautiful and created a lovely exceptional atmosphere. The wedding guests arrived to a beautiful entrance where we held a pre wedding drinks reception. The ceremony took place in a gorgeous room upstairs and my daughter, bridesmaids and myself got ready in the bridal suite. The ceremony was lovely which almost felt as if we were in a church. The after wedding drinks and canapés were held outside in the beautiful gardens as we were lucky to have a very sunny day. The quartet (diventino) were so wonderful in the background. The wedding breakfast was held in the marquee, the florist did beautiful displays of flowers along with the bouquets. (unfortunately our only disappointment was Gemma Bond (wife of Bond Marquees) who provided the table decorations and gave a very unprofessional service before and after the wedding so we cannot recommend her). The most amazing food supplied by red olive along with the the very efficient staff and great barman, a very professional service. During the reception we had background music and a disco in the evening supplied by Dave 'bliss wedding DJ' who gave a magnificent service. We would like to say thank you to Sir Richard for opening your home to such a precious time 'our daughter and son in laws wedding' we will always treasure the memories. The one person that makes this whole beautiful house, gardens and marquees work so wonderfully is Phobe, there are perhaps no words that can say thank you to you except as my husband said you are like a Duracell battery that never runs out of energy and have the most patient manners to everyone, you are a truly professional person with exceptional qualities!

The Tissngton trail starts in Ashbourne and has a gentle slope up to Hartington then reasonable flat up to the High Peak trail. You can stop for refreshments at the Parsley Hay cycle hire centre then continue on the High Peak trail. We made it as far as Minninglow and had fantastic views over the valley. We then returned to the start of the Tissington trail, covering 38 miles. Not bad for a couple in their 50s! We certainly enjoyed the downward slope to Ashbourne on the way home and some more spectacular views.

This is a tarmac path which is ideal for cyclists but if you're a walker then be prepared to dance about like a ninja as the riders come hurtling up behind/towards you. The part we walked on (from Ashbourne Heights) was closed in and fine if you enjoy going one way and then returning the same. We couldn't find any way of getting of fit to strike out on our own apart from one sign saying 'footpath to Fenny Bentley' which meant crossing a small field and then walking along the main road. It's very much 'keep off my land' around there - not very friendly - but then I found the whole area (especially Ashbourne itself) like this.

Walked this trail a few times now and love it. Very pretty, plenty of facilities at different points and such a scenic walk. My dog can go off the lead for quite a lot of it which is great. Flat which is great for me (as I hate hills).

One of the best cycle paths I have ever rode on, some great views of superb countryside.WE started at Parsley Hey which has a café and toilet facilities next to the cycle hire store. We headed to Ashbourne which was quite an easy ride. One uphill section on the return leg.

Our party was greeted by two wonderful guides. We were on a tour at 11.00am and the tea room had opened early to accommodate us. Good customer service indeed! The tour was interesting, the hall lovely and the log fire burning brightly. Such a welcome. The gardens were beautiful and would create a beautiful backdrop to the wedding marquee on the lawn. Lord Fitzherbert even spent 10mins with our party. After the tour we all lunched in the tea room. It was very well served and tasty and this cafe is in a very scenic location.

We started in Tissington village, and walked along to the trail, then northwards. Very well-kept and lovely views. We the cut across the fields, good footpath back to the village. A very enjoyable stroll

Started at Hartington and cycled to Ashbourne great ride but would do it the other way around next time as it's a bit testing on the legs returning from Ashbourne

We parked the car at Ashbourne, hired some cycles there and then cycled to Parsley Hay and back. There is a gentle incline from Ashbourne to Parsley Hay - so would suggest starting at Ashbourne if you can! The scenery was good - we stopped off at Tissington, which is a beautiful village in itself and worth a visit if you can.

lovely day out cycling on this trail, we started from Ashbourne to get the incline ride over with first.Nice cup of coffee on route to Parsley Hay, food etc reasonably priced along the way. Take a light jacket as a good percentage of the route is in the shade with the tree overhang.Enjoy.

The most important piece of advice I can give for the High Peak Trail is to start at Parsley Hay (which is easy to find with a lot of parking and good facilities) and cycle down to Middleton Top. Don't venture down the incline from there as it is punishing beyond belief on the way back up!! And to be fair there isn't much at the bottom to make it worthwhile.

We parked the car on the trail just outside Ashboune. £4.50 for the day helps maintain the National Park - good value. The Tissington trail is pretty much gently uphill all the way northwards from here. It sits on an escarpment with some great views over the Derbyshire Dales and peaks. It is less dramatic than the Monsal trail, but still a great cycle way for families and us 'casual' cyclists. We had a stop off at Tissington Village - there is a cafe at Tissington Station, but the village is just a hundred yards or so from the station. It is the highlight of the trail. It's picture postcard as is Tissington Hall. Entirely owned by the Tissington Estate, every building and grass verge is beautifully maintained. It boasts a local butchers, candle makers, old fashioned sweet shop (got Caramac for the first time in years!) and excellent cafe. We only cycled as far as the former Alsop le Dale station, then turned round. the cycle back to Asbourne was great - downhill all the way! Ashbourne itself is a little tired and lacks the range of restaurants and shops one would expect from a town of its size.
