Visited many years ago good then. But what a surprise we all had much better now. Reception area much improved great area for children indoors with activities. Outside all on the flat so easy access for all. Cafe light and airy. Saw lots if birds. The highlight was seeing all the swans being feed at 3pm. Great day was had by us all.

Always enjoyable, we visit several times a year and this year have taken family and friends to see the swan feed. It always amazes and impresses ! Lunch is always fine in the café, hot food and a selection of sandwiches etc. Helpful staff and volunteers everywhere !

I visited Martin Mere with a friend on a Sunday afternoon and had the most fantastic time! The staff are engaging and the place is just magnificent. I was slightly worried that it would be somewhat child orientated but it wasn't.I loved the otters at feeding time, and really enjoyed the observation areas where you can just sit and soak up the atmosphere.

We arrived in the afternoon and, after looking at the entrance charges which were very oddly priced (ordinary concession was £8.12 or something similarly silly), decided it would probably be better coming for an entire day. I thought the exactitude with working out how much a non Gift Aid price was a bit pedantic - why not just charge £8? Working in a place open to the public, I know you don't have to be quite so particular in setting prices!Since I was there I thought I'd at least buy a few postcards - but there were none of Martin Mere itself. There were plenty of the London Wetlands Centre and plenty of random birds, but none of the reserve.Before we left we thought we may as well have a cup of tea and a snack but making our way to the cafe we were stopped by a member of staff and told we couldn't go to the cafe because we hadn't paid and he couldn't let us go outside. I just thought this was rather petty and, having genuinely decided to return on a day when we could spend longer there, don't feel especially inclined to do so now. The person with me said, "Well, that's us told!" and indeed we felt like somewhat naughty children.My visit was a family visit but Trip Advisor does not have the option for the type of family so I put friends instead.

We took one of our grandchildren during half term. We thought it was quite expensive especially if we had taken the other 3. Make sure to buy the bird food, it's only £1 a bag and its goes far with little hands. There's plenty to do and shows to watch to keep you all entertained. Take a picnic as there's seating so you can eat and watch the birds at the same time. There's plenty of places to wash those little dirty hands. When you've had enough of the birds there's the play area which is large and safe. Try it out you won't be disappointed.

We are members of the WWT and always have a lovely time here, We have a wheelchair user with us and find all the facilities very accessible and they have a full changing table available. xx

a must if you like our feathered friends,,I first visited 35 years ago and it has gone from strength to strength.Great for youngsters and adults alike...a short walk from Burscough Bridge train station.

Cost is very high to get in ... think about paying for yearly membership !!! car parking is good even on the grassed area . drinks and food are pricey

Great day out! Loads to see and do, for young and old alike. Put on your oldest shoes though. You never know what you may be walking in!

I took my two grandchildren to Martin Mere and what a fun day we had. apart from the fantastic array of wildlife, the puddle jumping was fun as was the craft room. All volunteers and staff were very helpful. The only complaint I had was the price of food in the cafe, I would take a picnic in future. I did become a member and got my entry fee back for the day plus a lovely book on wildlife. I became a family member with up to six named children over four on the membership.

I live in London so I don't really get to see animals and birds but when my family and I went to Lancashire and to Martin Mere we saw loads of lovely animals! There are lots of lovely cafes . Also a big playground . Me, my grandpa and my brother went canoeing on a river which was really fun! There is a gift shop with toy animals and books . If I were you, I would go whenever I had time! We live local and so having three young kids and it being a handy place to come to, we invested in membership. It works out about £6 a month and we get so much out of it! Its a really big plce with lots to do so you can have a full day out here, whatever the weather. They have play areas dotted around if the kids get bored of walking or you want a break. Lots of picnic areas so you can bring your own food and drinks. Canoe hire, boat rides, den building, indoor craft rooms. The kids love it. A bag of seed is £1 and the kids really enjoy putting it on their hand and having the ducks eat it straight off there! (sanitizer placed at handy points around the park and you get two sterilised wipes with each bag of seed). After doing the long or short loop round the centre there is a big clean play area at the end which the kids love. Zip wire, slides swings etc really good! They do have a restaurant serving lots of different dishes but since we only had coffee I cant comment on food quality. Though the restaurant is large with plenty of high chairs and an out door decking area to sit in the summer. To be honest the prices seemed quite steep, perhaps an expensive meal if you have a big family like we do. I will continue to renew my membership here my kids get s much out of it and its nice to have a 'go to' place when you have a few hours to fill.

Excellent day out here with the kids... Very good value for money (under fours are free)... Play area excellent (although more suited to older children)... The "Wild Welly Walk" is brilliant... However, the bacon sandwiches in the cafe were a major dissapointment... At £3.25 each I was expecting something more than two rashers of undercooked fatty bacon on a basic barmcake... We were asked if we wanted butter but whatever was spread on the barmcake was clearly not butter... It arrived within thirty seconds so was clearly not cooked to order... For the price I paid I would expect real butter and at least enough bacon to fill the barmcake...

The staff are helpful and informative. We went on a cold midweek day when many of the ponds were frozen, which led to amusing views of ducks sliding around. Some of the flamingoes were inside to avoid the risk of broken limbs on the ice. Annual membership is worthwhile. There is a small number of wheelchairs available but no sign of any motorised scooters. The site is generally level but there are a number of gates to be opened between the various sections of the captive birds. The trails are tarmac which was ok after the wet weather. Feeding the otters and swans was great despite the bitter cold. Hundreds of whooper swans, ducks and geese present. The cafe was ok but the soup was warm not hot. There was a reasonable choice of hot food such as lasagne. One soup, one coffee, one cheese sandwich with chips and two scones was over £16.
