It was a very lovely tour that I took my sister to when she cam to visit me. You get to learn a lot about the history of Maastricht in an entertaining way. The tour guides are well prepared and keep you engaged. If you are into history, you will enjoy it very much. If you don't really like history, you can still enjoy the panoramic view to maastricht. A tip: combine this tour with the caves! It is not expensive at all and definitely worth seeing!!

The tour was in Dutch, which we were warned about in advance. Between reading the English guide leaflet and my wife's interpretation, I was more than happy with the tour. Excellent views from the top over the whole of Maastricht. From what we could see, English tours are provided, but are limited, so if you need this, plan in accordingly. Parking is free (yes, seems hard to believe) and the area has paths for walking around, including the outer part of the fort.

This fortress compared to other parts of the city is not special nor that old. Tours are not very frequent, and very few in English, and you can't go inside in without one. Easy to find on map.

First of all: No, in October 2014 there were no renovations ongoing and a guided visit was possible. If you are interested in historical buildings or in fortifications here you will be right. The location: is very close to Maastrich city center by car or by bike and even walking (2km). There is a large parking area (free) and you can also visit there the Sint Pieter Caves. There is even a combo ticket for both attractions because the same folks (maastrichunderground.nl) do both guided tours. Price was 6 € for the fort only. The ticket office is on the side of the restaurant. Background: Belgium was always a crossroads and war was a frequent visitor. During the visit of the troops of Louis XIV, they found a nice flattopped hill nearby and installed their artillery there. The Goverment of Holland decided to avoid this in the future and build a Fort to deny the enemy this vantage point. The fort is located at the southern side of Maastrich and was part a detached part of a complex defence system that protected Maastrich in the 1700´s. If you take a stroll around the fort (this is free) afterwards a clearer picture will emerge. The guided visit will take you around the building with a lot of explanations about the use and details of the Fort. The building is well preserved (well after several wars you can not expect more) and give you an insight of how a defender of the time must have feeled and offer a lovely view of Maastrich. There are no signs in English so better plan a guided visit (like Sundays 15:30) Due to the nature (underground) is a bit cold and slippery so do not forget apropiated shoes and clothes. there is no access for wheelchair user (sorry). Kids will probably have fun here. There are a couple of other activities here like the caves or a nature walk.Link;http://www.maastrichtunderground.nl/eng/locations_and_tours/guided_tours_of_fort_st_pieter/regular_guided_tours

We were able to take a walk around the fort, but didn't get a chance to do much more than that. There are no signs in English that could provide more information about the fort, and there were no tours being held on the day of our visit. While we were there, there were workers who looked like they were doing some restorative work. We would recommend that you go to the Maastricht Underground tour, which starts right next door to the fort, at the top of the hill at the cafe.

it's free, you can look at it on the outside, but it's under construction. No idea when they will be finished, surroundings are nice for a stroll though

I truly loved this visit, the tour was fantastic the guide was able to tell you a lot about the fort and its history, but also personal stories.

The fort should be a must see place for anyone visiting Maastricht. The construction of this fort is unique and still remains intact (or renovated) in fair condition. The underground tunnels leads the visitor to the central premises of the fort. The underground caves give a goosebump feeling in every corner. The 40 m deep well still can be seen lying deep in the tunnel. The guided tour can be booked online / from the restaurant next to the fort if you arrive at proper time. The timing calender along with the price is listed on the website (http://www.maastrichtunderground.nl/eng).A combined tour of both fort and north cave is reccomended.

There is a new parking next to the fort, so its easy to reach. However some climbing is involved. Very interesting to hear about the history. The fort had to defend Maastricht against the Frensh armies. Some nice stories about the 4th marketeer D'Artagnan who died here in front of the city walls. Also Peter the Great from Russia is supposted to have visited the fort while he was staying in Amsterdam. The fort was a remarkable military cinstruction for that time.

The fortress is undergoing repair. This is an active construction project and it would appear the are making good progress. Not must accessible not but I would think in less than a year it will be open. Still worth seeing when in Maastricht but it will be much better soon.

We visited Fort Sint Pieter just before it closed down for renovations and when the Lions Club Maastricht rented this venue for their annual charity event. The fort is old and has history, we enjoyed a short tour and enjoyed the view over Maastricht, an old Dutch city with much history.
