This is one of the squares more frequented by locals. Most tourists don't venture far from the main town square, however this is just around the corner and worth a visit. In summer the restaurants and bars expand into the maarkt square and the beestenmarkt becomes a great place to soak up the Delft summer atmosphere with a drink and chatting to good friends.

'Het Beestenmarkt' is always very vibrant - full of people, sitting outside in the "beergarden"-kind'a environment. The perfect first place-to-visit for extrovert persons coming to Delft. The bars and cafés are open all season, in the winter without the outside-seating (but with ice-skating place instead) and with shorter opening hours, in the summer virtually all day open.Only reminder: close-to all bars in the Netherlands close between 2:30 and 3:30 am, and Beestenmarkt is no exception to the rule!

The beestenmarkt used to be the marketplace for live cattle. Nowadays it is a place where people sit together and enjoy life and a drink in an historic environment that reminds you of a village square somewhere in the south of France! You can go there as couple in love, or as a family, with your friends or on your own and enjoy no matter what your age may be.

Relax and watch the world go by over a cold beer and good food, plenty of choice for all tastes and prices

Lively square full of bars and some restaurants. Definitely worth a stop if in Delft. During winter (depending on weather) there is also an ice skating ring installed.

We visited beautiful Delft on a Monday in June. On this bright sunny day, it was easy to walk around this smaller European city and venture into the narrow side streets. After walking through Delft and exploring other areas, we returned to Beestenmarkt! We had find our treasures - two small, signed etched drawings - one of the Oude Kerk (Old Church) and one of a windmill. This market square has many shops, restaurants and places to sit and relax. Surrounded by trees, bicycles parked leaning against buildings and flowers spilling over pots, Beestenmarkt is inviting, relaxing and a memorable stop on your travels.

We really had a nice time in a great and elegant frame. Nice light, music and atmosphere. The weather was not that good so maybe for that reason there were few people, that is something that we enjoy! The bar is in a temporary structure so you can not pretend, but sometimes they have live music and an excellent pizza in a wooden hoven . Nice entertainment.

We visited Amsterdam in April and as a one day sidetrip we went to Delft. We saw this lovely treelined square with lots of shops and restaurants and decided to just sit and do what so many tourists and locals did - Relax and enjoy the square and do some "people watching".

As a child I had to pass over this market-square everyday. Every Thursday farmers would bring their cattle to the market, selling their animals through traditinal handclapping. The square had these little poles which could be fitted with boards to keep the animals in. These days the animal-market has gone and there are nice shops and lots of restaurants on the square. Kobus Kuch is the place for fresh home-made traditional Dutch apple-pie.Cafe Vlaardingen, the place to be for a nice lunch or just loungen on the terrace. In wintertime, the square usually houses a skate-rank for young and old with of course the traditional 'koek and zopie' nearby. Off course 'Dutch peasoup' is a must.Lastly before the square became an animal-market, there was a gunpowder factory, which blew up

The Beestenmarkt in the old centre of Delft means Animal Market in Dutch, this is where in earlier days the animals were traded. Now it is a somewhat touristic but very pleasant square with many restaurants which have seating on the square, in the shadow of lovely old trees. Can be reached with five minutes walking e.g. from the new Zuidpoort parking garage.

Lots of busy restaurants and a lively atmosphere with outdoor eating and drinking. A pleasant tree lined square.

The trees and numerous restaurant establishments make this a great place for meals, socializing and relaxing.

A local Dutch friend recommended this place to us as a relaxing and scenic place to eat. He was right! We especially enjoyed lunch at the Kobus Kuch where both the service and food were top quality.
