Apart from a very good historic exposition just a nice museum to visit with a lot of unexpected great displays

Interesting museum near Gouda's central market place. The old chapel houses some impressive art works, and there are extensive displays of art and ceramics throughout the two floors of the museum. The history and gradual expansion of Gouda is well documented within the museum, and there are displays of ceramics, old clay pipes and other artefacts. The museum has a lovely restaurant and an outdoor seating area.

It can be a little tricky to find, but has an attractive eclectic variety of items. It was once a hospital and the entrance is quite amazing. The old chapel is the first thing you see and there are displays of priestly vestments along with other religious artifacts if you are interested.They have a few large old paintings and as you walk through you are going to encounter stairs so be aware. My favourite was the old kitchen area which as been turned into a kids museum and work shop.

Museum Gouda is a nice museum for people with specific interests. There is enough to see, but not really the top items. For that reason it is not so attractive for the big mass, though if you are really interested in art it might be quite interesting. Personally I liked the model of the old city of Gouda. There are also several paintings and a lot of pottery.

An extensive museum that could easily be bypassed at street entrance. Attached to the St. Jan's Kerk, the complex is a maze of stairs and rooms, each one with its own surprise. A great collection of Gouda pottery on display, beautiful old- masters paintings from the 17th century. Also an interpretation of Gouda's history. Remember, this is a city museum, not a national one. Hence, the exhibits are local in nature. The museum attaches to a courtyard with a restful cafe next to the church. All in all, a step back in time.

We visited as a family. Cost 7 euro pp and under 18 is freeAn additional charge the sign said applies for the painting exhibition which we did not intend visiting of 3 euro pp. We had to pay extra 3 euro pp irrespective and furthermore for child as well! Explanation at the desk: If child can walk there is a charge of 3 euro for this exhibition even though the general entry fee for up to 18 year olds is FREE. This is ridiculous and silly and we were not even interested in visiting this exhibition.On the positive we enjoyed the "torture chamber" in basement where you shine torch onto the floor to read signs and see blood spatters and stories about how criminals were punished at each type of equipment.

The museum is next to the St John’s Church and has two entrances. The main with a small shop is on the Oosthaven 9 and a smaller entrance is in the small street “Achter de Kerk” behind the museum. This smaller entrance is opposite the entrance of the St John’s Church. The museum is housed in the former Catharina Guesthouse, a home for the elderly. Some rooms from the former Guesthouse have been retained like the Chirurgijnsgildekamer (Surgeons Guild room), the room where the surgeons of the town had their meetings since 1699. There is also a very nice complete interior of an old pharmacy.There is a collection of 19th century paintings (The Hague School) but the quality is not as good as you will find in other museums. This collection must have been 2nd or 3rd choice.Furthermore there are some large paintings of Officers of the local Militia in the 17th century and various religious artefacts (robes, silverware, etc.) One room has a large scale model of the historic centre.Besides the art and history collection there is a very good dispay of Gouda Pottery in a separate section. Here you get a good overview of the production through the years of six of the local potteries. It is nice to wonder through the museum and see the remains of the former Guesthouse and the art on display.At the smaller entrance there is a nice café with an outside terrace. All very quiet

It is a good way to see the history of Gouda and the Middle Ages.There is nothing to dislike, it is a beautiful museum and the scenery is good with restaurants and a walk through the old city.

Liked the children's area,the Gouda pottery exhibit,the paintings,,a Jan Steen or two...and antiques of various kinds?The gift shop was very limited.The Cafe was most elegant though the service left something to be desired!apple cake is omnipresent throughout Holland and I have tried many.this was quite good and I shared with my sister in law.

The Museum is by historic standards not great, little available to non-Dutch speakers, but the whole building has a wonderful feeling, and the city itself contributes to make this place a nice visit. The proximity of the Church and the Town Hall make it a pleasant visit, as the building hosting the museum is maybe the real attraction.

It is a small museum but very interesting with a combination of furniture and objects besides paintings from different periods.

The museum has a nice entrance... a gate over the small canal, that allready in itself made me curious what it would look like inside.. It's a small little museum with some nicely decorated rooms, several objects on display and also several paintings.The museum is nice and certainly worth a visit, but as i have seen a lot of these types of musea in The Netherlands and outside, i can't see it is much nicer or better than all those other ones... still as the entrance fee is very low and it is next to the church, why not take a visit, you won't be disappointed.
