A great bodega tour. I liked the fact that we got to see the old and new parts of the bodega and learn about its history.

Very good response after emailing, asking for information. That said a bit worrying when no sign of activity until exaclty on the agreed hour. (Yes it was a Sunday)There were quite a group of us by the time we were to go in, but all with the same confused faces on. It was raining so if the reception area would have been open it would have made the whole experience perfect. The guided tour was well worth it and Gema our guide was more than willing to anwser any question. The new building is very impressive and having the access under the road to it from the old part makes the tour flow. What a brilliant way to finish the tour, getting to keep your glass after the wine tasting. Im sure their will be something that catches attention at the shop on the way out.Great experience.

La Protos winery is one of the most spectacular you can find in Ribera del Duero. It spreads beneath the Peñafiel castle with many tunels filled with thousands of wine barrels. The visit cost about 10 euro and at the end you cand taste some of the wine the have for sale . Normaly is a a cup of white wine and a cup of Protos Crianza. If you want to visit a interesting old winery then Protos is one of the best in the area but if you want to try some of the best wine I would better recomend Arzuaga or Pago de Carraovejas .

This must have been one of the most detailed and insightful winery tours we have done. Excellent guides. Very friendly and they go out of their way to explain everything and answer all questions. We did the tourist tour and were very pleased. Their website advises to make reservations in advance. We sent an e-mail the day before and received a prompt response in the morning for an afternoon tour.

The Bodegas Protos was a great experience. We were on a Spanish Tour, but the guide answered all of our questions in English with no problems. I hesitate to use names because everyone whom we came in contact with was wonderful and helpful!! The tour was interesting and the new Richard Rogers building was awesome! They poured nice glasses of wine for the tasting!! And they also had a nice assortment of munchies to go with the wine!!

The Bodega tour takes you into the old underground cellars which are located within the hillside which is topped by Penafiel Castle and which then connect into the new spectacular winery building that was designed by Sir Richard Rogers. A real contrast of old and new.A very informative tour guide and a generous wine tasting. After the tour do drive up to the Castle ~ a most spectacular viewpoint

Protos Winery offers a nice choice of tours on their homepage but when you want to book everything is impossible... So we had to trail along with a large Spanish group and because they were more than 30 minutes late for their tour we were rushed through the premises, given some wine to taste and quickly found ourselves on the empty streets again.

We finally found Bodega Protus in Peñafiel which was open on a Saturday morning. The gates were firmly locked but just as we were turning away Gema came to let us in for the tour. The cellars deep underground were vast, impressive but somewhat clinical. The steps of the wine making process were slightly disjointed but we got the idea. Richard Rogers' architecture was an interesting bonus. We were invited to sample two wines with no pressure to buy and we were given the glasses. However, we do prefer the more intimate family run bodegas to this slick commercial one.

We'd booked this visit as part of our hotel deal and were a bit concerned by the distance we had to travel as we were staying in Vallodalid. However, this proved to be one of the highlights of our holiday. From the very beginning our guide- Gema Pena- was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. She was attentive to our questions and spoke very clearly in English. We would recommend this tour to anyone and having bought some of the delicious wines we're hoping to remember our visit for some time to come.

This is a very interesting tour that shows the old cellar built in to the mountainside. It shows wine making on a huge scale, a stark contrast to many other Ribera bodegas. The wine tasting is done in quite a bland room- nowhere near as nice as the nearby Comenge or Cepa 21 tasting rooms. The wines themselves are nice, but not great. The Verdejo from their Rueda winery is far superior (and cheaper) than the reds (with the exception of the Grand Reserva) made in Penafiel. If you are doing a large wine tour, include this, but there are definitely more interesting bodegas nearby.

This winery is a nice stop on your visit to Ribera del Duero if for no other reason than to serve as a nice contrast point to the smaller, more cosy or family run wineries like Emilio Moro, for instance. Designed by Sir Richard Rogers, I have to say I enjoyed the architectural aspect of the visit more than the actual wine tour itself, though going through the underground tunnels would probably be quite fun for someone who is doing this sort of tour for the first time, but not if you have done the cellars visits in France where these are ancient and truly impressive. Protos' Gran Reserva is decently rated and very nice, also cheaper at cellar door than the shops, even mass buyers such as El Corte Ingles, so if you are keen on their crianza, I would suggest buy at cellar door. Not a must, but a good contrast benchmark on your visit of this beautiful wine region, and you get to keep rather nice wine glasses from your wine tour.

I have been to many bodegas but this one was definitely lacking a personal touch. It was interesting to see a co-existence of the old and the new parts of the winery. Their underground cellars hidden in the hill are impressive. They are used to receiving 30 pax groups every 30 mins, they make you pay 10 eur per person, overpriced for such a massive tour. The wines are good, but overpriced. You get more singular wines at similar prices.

There is a walk through the tunnels, and you can see where the wine rests in barrels. And you can learn about how wine is made, since the grape is harvested until the wine is bottled.

Very large Bodega, but good wines with fruit and balance. http://www.vinkreutzer.dk/2012/04/pesquera-af-hotel-ribera-del-duero/

The charm of the very modern bodega with a prime spot next to the Castle of Peñafiel, was unfortunately spoiled by terrible service and bad attitude of the staff. Some of the wines, particularly the crianza and reserve, are very good for a mass market wine. But the wines are VERY expensive compared to the overall high-quality of product from smaller wineries within just a minutes of Protos. Together with a much better customer service experience, other wineries in the region offer a much better value.
