与圣赫罗尼莫修道院相比，圣胡安教堂 Basilica de San Juan de Dios（那天我偷看婚礼的教堂）简直闪花了我的眼。又见到中国的花瓶了 这座教堂允许你登上二楼十字架位置，俯瞰信众席。在十字架后，你会发现无数圣物（圣人遗骸），包括一位圣人的木乃伊。离开的时候，意外见到了教堂养的小宠 ——好不容易抓了一张它最帅的样子！

We visited today and my husband and I were both completely overwhelmed by this place.Neither of us are particularly religious, well not at all in fact, but my gosh....the first thought in my mind was "Oh my God!".....As I have said in a few other reviews, we are Australians living in Granada for a year, and after the Alhambra I would rate this next best (and we are starting to really see a number of out of the way places after 2 months already).The Baroque style is not to everyone's taste but one cannot help but be absolutely awe struck by the magnitude and detail in the interior design. The place was NOT crowded (we were there at 5pm Wednesday), perhaps only 5 or 6 other tourists and one felt there was plenty of time and space to truly absorb the Basilica.Photographs were also allowed.If you have time after visiting the Alhambra, visit here.....

This small baroque basilica is a jewel with no space left not embellished. The audio guides in various languages provide an excellent description both of the church and of the life of St John of God. We had gone to the museum of St John of God, just by chance, earlier that morning and found doing the two places in one day was great. Gave a very full picture of his life and activities.

I had such a wonderful time. This and the one in Sevilla were absolutely amazing. I would recommend coming and seeing all the beautiful jewels and crowns that are kept in the museums.

This is easily the most beautiful over the top Church I have ever seen. A real feast for the eyes and a wonderful history. It is a monument to 'love and charity'. Entrance was 4 euros and that included an audio machine. Excellent value for money. You can put a euro in a machine and it lights up the alter. Fantastic (see picture). The art works were lovely. Do not miss.

I have seen some churches in my time but this really takes the biscuit. Gothic and more! It is a real feast for the eyes, and you just don't know where to look. The audio guide is free, and whilst I am not normally a fan of them, you will need it! There were few people here, which was nice but, as the Americans say, it is truly awesome.

This Basilica is a must to visit it is a very Beautiful Church and has such an interesting History . Don't miss out at lighting up the Main Alter it is well worth the 1 euro in the slot quite awe inspiring

Very glamorous Jesus and holy Mary statutes. Awesome architecture and interior design, cannot image the extravagant design throughout whole church.

This is a must see while in Granada.  The splendor of this church is almost beyond comprehension.  To enter, you have to go through the garden gate just to the right of the church's main entrance.  There is a 3 Euro admission that comes with a free audio guide.  From the time that you walk in the WOWs begin.  The real wow is upstairs.  You can see into the upstairs area from the main floor, but it is not until you actually get there that you have an appreciation for the ornate objects that are there.  Run by the Order of St. John which has a hospital tradition, it is immediately adjacent to the hospital.  If you are walking there from the center of town, it is about a 15 minute walk but well worth it.  If you have to choose between St. John's and the Cathedral of Granada, it is a no brainer.  The Cathedral is huge and celebrated, but, compared to many others in Europe, pretty bland.  On the other hand the Basilica rivals almost any in the world.

Like others I saw this church on tripadvisor when researching things to do in Granada. I put it close to the top of my list, and I'm so glad we made time to see it! We climbed the stairs to where the Saints' relics are kept first. The stairway itself is beautiful, painted and tiled with gorgeous scenes. Then you get to the top and can look out into the church, Wow! Then, you go to see San Juan's relics! The room is covered in gold and silver, exquisitely crafted -Baroque to the max! Then once back down stairs you can marvel at the gilted altar and visit the individual niches. An audio guide comes with the price of admission, so you can listen to commentary throughout your visit- nice when most places are charging a separate fee for an audio guide. There is a place where you can put money to illuminate the altar- what a difference when lighted! This was truly a jaw dropping experience, so different from the massive cathedrals that can feel cold and vast. It was nice to just sit and take in the beautiful altar and surroundings. You must see this if you have time, even if you are not a big church visiting fan!

nicer than any cathedral in Rome except the Vatican. What is amazing is the ability to go in areas usually roped off. Not in major tourist area either. As ornate ad you'll ever see.

I saw this church here on trip advisor and decided I must see it. Now apparently it is high Baroque architecture so technically it should be the 'high' end of the Roman Catholic Faith. Every square inch of every surface is designed to overpower you sense of touch and sight and with lighting heighten these senses. Imagine a service with choirs added and the resonance of echoed chords from the church walls and roof. Add again the smell of a censer (thurible) and great dollops of holy water being dispensed by a holy brush from a 'bucket' on holy days. Now this gets close to the being a sacramental christian where people from Christian Orthodox countries worship The Godhead in their own unique style. To appreciate a service of worship go back into the middle ages when daily life was hard toil, poverty and ill health for many and a short life span. To come into a building like this gave you "THE WOW FACTOR" - eat your heart out Simon Cowell!!!!! People came to appreciate the beauty, power, serenity of God in this place before going back outside. If you come from a different denomination of the Christian faith you are saying it is beautiful and over the top but not for me. Have We got that right? However The Christian God wants you to know, love and serve him and therefore he starts in relationship with you in a way you understand. Your understanding comes from your background, culture, values and family upbringing. For some that is difficult to understand that a Father can be loving!!!!! Think how different our backgrounds are!!!! Hmmmm.Now back to the review. I cannot put in words what this church expresses. You have to go and experience it for yourself. The price of 4 euros includes a guided audio but I found that so wordy that I dispensed with it. You enter through the Sacristy arrive in the main nave (hall) and then a lady will guide you to the staircase. DO GO UPSTAIRS and do not miss it. You saw a light downstairs and now you are in 3 rooms. One has a delightful crib with Baby Jesus in it.But the most important one is the tabernacle in the centre. This is where the communion hosts are kept in an ordinary church. The Tabernacle from judaism would be the Inner room (sanctum) or as we would say 'The Holy of Holies'. You can see what the architect is trying to express in materials............ the depiction of of the Meeting place between God and His people in Old Testament times. The Orthodox and Catholic denominations separated in the 11th century and one went to Rome and the other Constantinople. But the great secret is that we ALL carry The Holy Spirit in our 'heart'. Our volitional centre is the tabernacle. That means your mind.We hope we have not bored you as this is a beautiful Catholic High faith church but within the artists/architects/designer skills they have managed to express in worldly 3 dimensional forms what cold be understood by a member of the Orthodox Faith.This is a most unusual church and you need to sit in the pews and wonder at the great skill of it's creator.............."Our Father who art in heaven..............."When you have finished in this church you will realise how noisy the outside world rushing by really is!Be much blessed and awed. Time spent just under an hour. Not for children Mums! Wheel chair users very difficult. There may be toilets back at the ticket desk.One last mystical touch for you. Remember Our Lord said "My house shall be called a house of prayer" and if you are a local you can enter direct of the street just to worship but you have to be a worshipper so you do not get to the other rooms. The interior of this church is incredibly ornate. The gilded altar is a site to behold. Definitely a must see when walking around the city. We took a ton of pictures.
