The campground is nice. With a beautiful view once you walk down the nature trail to Lake Blue Ridge. We have spent 4 nights in a pop up camper here (1 of only 4 sites with electricity). I think this campground is definitely for someone looking for the outdoorsy camping experience. The campsites themselves are decent. They have gravel, water, fire ring, & even clever poles with hooks for lanterns & such. You have to watch what site you get (we didn't have a problem) but a few sites have a relatively small area for camper set up. They'd be better for tents. (Which is probably what they're intended for since there's no power in most of them). Camp hosts were very nice & even helpful!! (They are pretty strict on rules though, and the lock the gate at 10 PM & don't open it until 7AM unless it's an emergency). The reason I gave 3 stars was because this place is lacking in the facilities department! They bathrooms & shower house are on opposite ends of the campground. The bathrooms were kept ok, but my main complaint is the shower house! It wasn't my favorite. In fact, it was very dirty with spiders (I killed 3 spiders & a wasp). I'm pretty sure it hasn't been cleaned in a good while. There were dead moths & junk all over the counter at the sink in the shower house. But see that's not even the kicker, there was only ONE shower (per gender) & it was one of those shower you usually see at the beach with the push button to turn it on for 15 seconds at a time! That's right! You have to press the button every 15 seconds of your shower. It's ok though, I lived! I was just glad they had a warm shower (even if I did have to press the button a lot). This campground (due to primitive showers & very wooded area) is very much closer to roughing it for those of you that are looking for that experience! Other than the showers, I enjoyed it!

If you go wear river shoes or something similar so you don't hurt your feet trying to get to the beach and water from the parking lot.

I have never posted a review on TripAdvisor before but felt compelled to given our recent experience. After reading the other glowing comments listed in the last month or so for this place, I half wonder if I was at the same place as the other reviewers. My title sums up how I feel. The Morganton Point Recreation Area I visited was indeed on beautiful Lake Blue Ridge and had a nice swimming area. The campsites I saw were of average size and quality- similar to what can be found at smaller state parks in South Carolina and Georgia. The facilities, however, were awful. As another reviewer noted, there is only one (yes, one) shower for each gender, and it is located in a separate building far way from the regular bathrooms, which was kind of odd. This separate bathroom building contained one (yes, only one) toilet for men and two urinals. None of these would necessarily be issues by themselves, but all the facilities were dirty. And when I say dirty, I mean like they hadn't been cleaned in weeks. Moreover, the water was only lukewarm at best- definitely not "hot showers" (or even warm showers) as advertised on the Forest Service site. Before you roll your eyes and say, "well, were you expecting a Hilton or a Marriott?", the answer is "no". I have tent camped at many state campgrounds before, and this is quite possibly the worse I have stayed at. I will say again, I do not expect to be pampered while camping and do not mind "roughing it" at times, but I do hold this campground to the same level as any other government one. I don't think its too much to ask that a shower have fairly warm water and clean (or at least fairly clean) restrooms. Morganton Point provided neither. If it was cheaper, then maybe I could give it a pass. But at $20 a night plus fees, it is as high or higher than aforementioned state parks and much poorer in quality. (And I didn't even mention that those other parks would give you electricity for the money too- which this place doesn't.) If all you care about is stunning views (which I admit this place has in spades) and a nice swimming area, give this place a try. But if you expect a little more out of your campsite, if you want to leave a shower or bathhouse cleaner than you went in, check elsewhere.

My husband and I just returned from a 3 night tent camping trip to Morganton Point Recreation Area. We had site 11 (a walk in tent site with no electricity or water) and were amazed at this wonderful campsite and campground. Our site was set back a bit (about 200 feet) and was right on the lake. We had privacy and plenty of space. The walk in to this site was not too bad and we had no problems getting our things to the site and back. The walk to the restroom was easy as well. This is a beautiful campground and most of the sites are Lakeside or Lakeview. It's a small campground and very secluded. The lake is wonderful and uncrowded. We camped Monday through Thursday. The only thing you need to know of going here is that there is very limited showers (1 per gender unless the walk in tent area had another one we were not aware of). With that being said, no one ever seemed to be there when we went so getting a shower was not a problem. There is an outdoor shower at the day beach area as well. We swam in the lake right from our campsite and will plan to take our boat next time. We never, as a rule, go to the same campground twice because there are so many we want to see however we will make an exception in this case and do plan to return here.

We really enjoyed the Morganton Point state park. They had a nice swimming area and places to fish away from the swimmers. They had an outstanding shower area and a place to change also. The bathrooms were clean and the park well kept. There were great views of the Lake and the mountains in the background and if you go to picnic get there early!

Great beach on a warm day, just make sure to have water shoes for the rocks! A little hidden paradise on the lake.

This was our families first experience swimming in a lake. We are a 15 minute drive to the beach, so we are beach people. This was a great introduction. The area was beautiful and well kept. The scenery is breathe taking. We used the bathrooms and changing facilities and both were very clean. Do make sure you wear water shoes. It is very rocky. Great experience!!

Beautiful camping and swimming area. Sandy beach with picnic tables. Actual beach is rocky as is the water. Water shoes are a very good idea. There is a boat ramp down the road. Scenery is beautiful. Water was pretty warm, but the breeze made it seem a little cool. $5 per vehicle. No pets allowed.

At $5 per car....this is an inexpensive day and very enjoyable, The lake was beautiful! We enjoyed swimming, kayaking (brought our own) and a family picnic. Facilities were very nice and the staff was helpful and friendly. Great Day!

This lake was a great visit for us. We went on a Sunday and it was only ten minutes or so from the Walmart in Blue Ridge. The park swimming area is extremely well kept and worth the $5 entry fee. Nice little hut there too to buy floats and snacks. Restrooms are very close as well. The shoreline and lake are loaded with pebbles, so I would highly recommend water shoes. This place is terrific for those with young children! The only thing that would make it better would be kayak or canoe rentals. My 11 year old was hoping for something just a little more exciting than a float.

You can take a picnic lunch, enjoy getting in the water, swimming or playing with water sports. Blue Ridge Lake is beautiful and Morganton Point Recreation Area lets you enjoy it to the fullest.

Fun day time activity for families. Very close to Blue Ridge and you feel like you are at a FL beach with the sand and crowd. Fun times!
