Living near Fort Mt. my wife and I have never there. It was really nice. There is a camp ground and beach as well as the rock wall no one knows how it got there. As always the Rangers are nice. There is a small fee to enter the park. If you live in the north Ga. Or southern Tennessee area stop by. The best part is late October or early November is beautiful. See the red and yellow leaves.

We enjoy cooking breakfast and having a fire in the fireplace close to the lookout area. Also great hiking trails!!! Kids enjoy swimming and fishing.

I visited recently with friends. We enjoyed the hike to the CCC-built fire tower - even if the tower wasn't accessible because of repair work. The mysterious rock wall is very interesting. It was fun to speculate who built the wall and why. And of course, the fall color was beautiful! I'll definitely be back.

This state park is near my home. I've been going here for most of my life. The park has a small lake that is perfect for lazy fishing, swimming and kayaking. There is a walking trail around the lake as well as several other hiking trails throughout the park. There are plenty of picnic areas, a good play area for the kids, put-put golf, some covered shelters for gatherings and much more. The best part about this park is the camping. The camp sites are large and clean. Each site has full hook up (including power, water and cable). There are several bath houses inside the camp area with clean toilets and hot showers. There are several camp sites very close to the lake. The park also has several basic cabins that can be rented. They are all several years old but many have been renovated in the past few years. There is also an overlook area that you can hike to in just a few moments. This overlook provides a breathtaking view of mountains and of the valley below. It's worth the short hike.Along the trail to the overlook there is an old stone fort. That is how "Fort Mountain" got it's name. Be sure to research the history of the old fort before you make the hike for a more memorable experience.Enjoy a little piece of my hometown!

The area is so beautiful and peaceful. My family loves the overlook as well. The swimming area is a great family fun adventure.

Lots of hiking options (short to long, mountain to lake), great scenery and the mystery of the stone walls. A must see State Park in Georgia!

We came here for a day visit in September 2014. There is so much to do here! Hiking trails, putt-putt, a nice swimming area, picnic area, and a fishing lake. I definitely recommend the hike to the old stone fire tower and rock wall. The hike is not too strenuous and the views are amazing. Pack a picnic and spend a day here! There also spacious campsites and nice cottages if you want to stay longer!

We stayed here in Oct. the park is beautiful, maintained, and well situated. The staff were wonderful and very helpful. the honest part of the stay, is the cabin was a bit "musky" old smelling, but nothing a can of Lysol didn't help. It was well stocked and clean. It is one of the most beautiful, parks we have been to! Will go back.

We just returned from a trip to Ft. Mountain State Park in North Georgia. The facilities were clean, well kept and the staff were friendly and informative. What a beautiful place to camp. Much to do if you are an active hiker or mountain biker, or if not a great place to just sit by the campfire. There are miles of hiking and biking trails encompassing the 3,000+ acre park, from easy to more difficult. Though the "difficult" wasn't that bad, the view was amazing and well worth the hike. If you are a history buff (or not) the stone wall left you wondering who DID create it, if only the stones could talk. Easy to find off of 52 it is located between Chatsworth and Ellijah. We will return! Speaking of Ellijah, quaint little town to visit. Be sure and go to the olive oil/vinegar store if you love to cook...

This is a easy park to find. while the walk to the viewing deck is not considered easy, I wouldn't say it's strenuous. There were several families visiting and that's always nice to see. You won't find a better view other than Lookout Mtn. We really enjoyed our visit

Camping - the facilities were very nice and the bath houses were very clean, they were small but there were multiple in the campground. The grade in combination with gravel made it difficult for some vehicles pulling camper trailers. Our FWD sedan had issues at times pulling into our camp site. ADA compliant.Hiking - OMG! I have lived all my life in Georgia, not to terribly far from this park, and did not know it existed. These were some of the MOST AMAZING views from the side of the mountain. I've been to the Grand Canyon...I was more impressed with this. The Cool Springs Overlook is ADA Compliant with a NICE new observation deck with a paved path.We did not get see everything, so we are looking forward to the next trip!

Follow up GA 152, the winding road, to the top of the mountain and your there. Just wow. The views are so lovely in the fog of morning, the swimming lake the highest swimming lake in Georgia, clean, camping, bathrooms on site and BBQ grills. Take the time to visit this little gem of a park atop of fort mountain.

I love this State Park. There are really nice trails several which lead to viewing areas with that overlook the mountain range or the city of Chatsworth. You can swim in the lake on top of the mountain but the water is usually a little chilly or you can rent a paddle boat in summer. There are campgrounds and picnic shelters for rent along with plenty of free to use (after the $5 parking fee of course) picnic tables and grills. There is also a nice trail around the lake that is fun to walk and less strenuous that those to the observation areas. The most hiked trail out to the stone wall and the fire tower is well maintained but does have some steps and hills. The fire tower is really neat to see and the stone wall is very interesting because its not fully know who built it or why.

Spent Labor Day weekend at the state park and used the campground and enjoyed the lake and surrounding area. The campground is well appointed- we had site 50 which was level and spacious and private. Clean restrooms and showers. Campground also has cable hook up. The only word of caution is that not all the sites are equal in size and location so it's the luck of the draw in what you get as georgia state parks apparently do not assign you a site upon check in. You drive around to find an open one even after a fully paid reservation. I hope they change this system. The lake and beach were busy with groups there for the day using the park. Very nice setting

Great park! BUT GA State Parks needs to get w/ it n let people reserve actual sites so people can guarantee that they can get sites beside friends/family... Swimming section needs to be enlarged. It was packed in the water n on the beach. Good news: nicest restrooms, nice trails, and Ranger Bob tours! The Stone Wall is very interesting! Study up before you go n share w/ children!
