This is a great campground! Went camping over the weekend in order to get some R&R and had a nice 4 days. The campsites are $35 a nite plus $2 parking fee per day. Even though we did not use a lot of their amenities we were still able to rent canoes or kayaks if we had desired to do so for a nominal fee. There are some pull throughs as well as spots that you have to back in to. The spots are nice sized and they have a fire pit, and a pole for hanging your lanterns, and a picnic table, on the site. Dump station available in campground. (Some campgrounds do not have these little extras!) They have a boat ramp that is on Lake Blackshear. If you get a waterfront site, you are able to pull your boat up to your site. Two bathroom/shower facilities, along with a laundry room, are near most sites. Beware: They have no sinks available to wash dishes. You can get some awesome evening pics from the cypress grove near front of park. Sam's Shortline, a sightseeing excursion train, is next door to park. Staff is very accommodating and friendly. Make reservations and arrive early to get the waterfront sites, because it is a first come first serve basis. There is a restaurant on premises, but I think it is seasonal. There is a restaurant off premises. There is a small bait and tackle shop right outside gates, but they close shop at 5 pm. You can buy your firewood there as well. Our second time there and would go back again.

Park is a few miles off the Interstate but it has a lovely lakeside setting. Fishing and boating seem to be the main activities although there is at least one nature trail. Washroom facilities were clean and WARM. It was around freezing during our stay so a warm washroom was appreciated. First time in my life I got to see a real B29. Would have liked to get closer but it was still great to see this old warbird. One of the aircraft did not have a plaque to describe it. Might have been an F86 but it did not look like the ones I grew up with (lived close to an airbase in the 1950s and 60s). I do not know how they got them but there were two Russian or Soviet artillery pieces on display. Good display of tanks and artillery including the famous Long Tom that gave the Germans so much grief. Toured the museum inside. Artifacts from 300 years of military activity. RV camping fee was about $33 including a $5 fee to enter the park. Sites are gravel and level with a lot of pull throughs. Lots of waterside sites. Water and electricity provided with a dump station near park entry.

This was our second visit camping at Georgia Veterans State Park. This is a lovely park along Lake Blackshear. They have several camp sites lake side but all the sites are great. There is not a bad site in the park. Most have a lake view. They have water and electric only but a dump station is available. There is a nice lodge with a great restaurant with in walking distance of the campground. The museum is free and a very nice dedication to our veterans. There is shopping ad restaurants near by. They do offer a discount for multiple months camping (for the snowbird friends) the Sam Shoreline train is at the entrance of the park. This is the only State Park that is on wheels. It will take you to the little town of Plains Georgia, the home town of President Carter. Overall a lovely park that would be great for family or individual camping. Either short or long term.

We visited this park in order to see the museum and aircraft. The museum is free and worth some time to see the artifacts and exhibits related to Georgia's veterans. The aircraft collection outdoors is another story. It is surrounded by a high fence with three strands of barbed wire at the top. They must be afraid someone is going to fly off with one of the planes, because you cannot go inside the fence. The star attraction is a B-29 that had a crew from Georgia and flew bombing missions at the end of World War II. It is crammed in and difficult to photograph because the space is too small to adequately display all the aircraft. Outside the fence are cannon and armored vehicles. I suppose they feel no one will carry off a tank.Be aware that this is a park, complete with camping, fishing, picnicking and related activities. Summer visits may find the small parking lot at the museum itself to be full. Also be aware that your GPS may try to get you turn onto a non-existent road about a mile before the actual entrance to the park.

This park has been in operation for years, but during recent years has been outsourced to private companies. Personally, I liked it better when it was a state run park, but it is still a fine place to relax and enjoy nature. The golf course is clean and neat. Fishing is abundant. If you enjoy camping, they have great facilities, and there is a small beach area on the lakefront. The hotel and on site restaurant are a bit overpriced for the area, but nice. The dinner cruise is enjoyable.

Seriously this park has it all and more! Everything you could want to do is here! Boating, beach, swimming, golf, museum, hotel, nice restaurant and bar and grill, everything!

My family loves this park! Depending on a mood you can stay easily busy or just relax. We visited many times and camped twice. We enjoy staying in area 3 with pull thru big wooded sites that have access to the trail. Bathhouse showers have lots of water pressure with hooks and shelves everywhere and was always clean. Sunsets by the lake are breathtaking. Trails are clear and very easy for bicyckle rides. Can't wait to plan another stay.

We went for Day Out With Thomas and the park was very neat, clean, and looks like a fun place! If we are ever back in Cordele we will visit.

Veteran's Memorial State Park is located on Lake Blackshear just outside Cordele, GA. We stayed at the campground and have to say it was well worth it. The campground hosts are to be commended for their diligence in keeping the sites and the campground area exceptionally clean. The views from within the park campground are great with plenty of sites located along the shoreline of Lake Blackshear. The camp sites are 1st come, first served, but the other sites offer very nice views as well. There are many large, drive thru campsites. It is a safe and both kid and pet friendly campground. The dump station is one of the better setups I've seen; they have drain hoses in place for your use. Overall, the place is very quiet and conveniently located to the SAM Excursion Train Line. The Park also has a Resort Lodge, boat rentals, boat launching ramps, Golf, and a Military War Museum. WI-FI is available at the Lodge or Campground office. We highly recommend this State Park for 1 night, or many days of relaxation. The park is also convenient to shopping and is within 10 miles of I75.

Really nice day trip. Regardless if you are going solo (I did) or part of a large church, AARP, or family reunion group, this is a nice "bucket list" to do item. This could also be a great (granted long one) field trip for school age children. Our Hostess, Betty, is a great oral historian. She is from the area and very knowledgeable. I learned interesting tidbits of information about the Flint River, President Carter, local farm industry etc. Upgrading to premium seating was money well spent.

Great place to visit for a day of fishing, swimming, and a picnic. There is a great Sunset to enjoy over the Lake if weather permits.

We last went for the 4th of July firework show, which is always a great show!!! We go several times a year and take the boat. They have nice, always clean restrooms right at the boat dock, which is great!
