While out visit to the Southern terminus of the AT, we decided to make a stop at The Funky Chicken Art Project. After stopping in downtown Dahlonega with the typical general store, art gallery, and diner, we made a stop at the Funky Chicken. At this studio we met the nicest artist who explained their work and allowed you to walk around while they created some masterpieces. Plenty of great pieces of art for sale or if you just want to browse and allow the artists to explain how they create their work, you will have an awesome time. I highly recommend it.

Owners Christina White, a hand and chainsaw woodcarver, and James Sargous, a painter and woodcarver, are often found working away at some new project. They're always ready to answer questions and show visitors around the gallery. They carry pottery, sculpture, weaving, jewelry, painting, furniture and more from local artists and from around the world. Often they have working artists in residence, most recently a couple of woodcarvers from England!Located in a refurbished chicken house, the gallery features a beautiful sculpture garden planted with many local varieties of flowering plants. Several species of chickens roam the grounds as well as some beautiful white peacocks.Christina also takes commissions. The piece I commissioned from her is pictured below. I just described a few things I liked and how I wanted to use the carving and she created an absolutely perfect piece. The gallery is not to far from Amicalola Falls.

I loved the funky chicken! The art and atmosphere is so unique. The owners are so friendly and when I bought a piece the artist resigned it for me. The funky chicken is a great place to stop in and check out!
