My wife and I had long planned the hour plus trip to Decatur to check out the Brick Store. We do not drink beer, but have traveled extensively in Great Britain and enjoy tthe atmosphere and food at pubs. Having read positive reviews of Brick Store online, we decided to eat there on Valentine's Day. The pub's location on the square was a great plus...and the crowd at 3:00 was impressive and indicated that it was a poplular place. As a whole, the experience was enjoyable but fell short of expectations. The staff, from the young lady who greeted us to the waitress who served us (helped by at least three others) were outstanding. They were all friendly, efficient and attentive. The atmosphere at the pub was enjoyable...everyone seemed to be having a good time and the venue/decor was inviting and comfortable. The disappointment? The food. It was good, but nothing outstanding. We ordered a pretzel appetizer and found them to be very ordinary, much like frozen pretzels. The sauce that is served with them, however, was very tasty with a late horseradish kick . My wife ordered the meatoaf sandwich and commented that it tasted "fine" but the bread was charred. When I asked if she would order the same entree again, she said "no". I ordered my favorite pub food, fish and chips. I have eaten fish and chips in at least a dozen pubs (and at several restaurants) in Scotland, Ireland and England and really enjoy the crunch of a thin, crispy batter. I enjoyed the taste of the Birck Store's fish and chips, but the batter was darker and heavier than I was accustomed to, and I was disappointed that neither malt vinegar nor tartar sauce was available as a condiment. The remoulade sauce that was served with the fish was very good, but I would have preferred a tartar sauce. As a Valentine's treat, we ordered dessert and again got mixed results. The pumpkin/chocolate chip pie that my wife ordered had a delicious filling, but the crust was very thick, overworked to the point that it was difficult to cut with a fork and burned. I ordered the banana whoopie pie...the chocolate cookie was much crunchier that I expected (but good); however, the filling had absolutely no banana flavor. Finally, we ordered "Tittle Pop" (homemade cracker jack-like appetizer) to take home. I tried it last night and ate very little before throwing it out...it had a strange burned taste as was overly salty (and I, unfortunately, love salt!).We are happy we visited the Brick Store pub. It was a fun Valentine's Day date, but there were some definite disappointments. We agreed that we would give the Brick Store pub a second chance if it were located in our home town, but it was definitely not a destination eatery.

Amazing food, beer and service. Staff is knowledgeable and simply amazing! Vast beer selection and food is above par in pairing by staff and taste. AMAZING talent and a must visit in quaint downtown Decatur.

Have visited the bar a couple of times, last time being Saturday evening. Extremely busy but staff still very helpful. Great selection of beers. Wonderful atmosphere. Didn't know which beers to try so barman kindly arranged two samples of beers to be brought up from downstairs. Couldn't do enough. Must try the food sometime before I go back home.

So we went to Brick Store last week & thought it was all right… The service was a bit odd - we had about 6 different servers. We had one of the 3 outdoor tables so maybe that played a part? A few of them seemed to be high on life if you know what I mean. But it's Decatur so that's not too shocking. Anyhow. It was nice that we weren't left w/out service but slightly annoying to be constantly interrupted & have to tell them that someone else was already doing x,y,z. Our group had the pretzel app which was fine to me - nothing special - just like a pretzel at a Braves game but w/ fancy mustard & pimento cheese. 2 of us had the meatloaf sandwich b/c we'd seen it on tv (Atlanta Eats) & we could swear it looked totally different on the show…but maybe our memory had faded? It was good but not sure that I'll be having cravings for it in the future. I had the pasta salad as my side & I have to say I was surprised at the look of it - did not look appetizing - lacked color & variety. I think they use an orzo pasta - no issue w/ that - but it seemed the only veggies included were onion & green beans which is kind of lame - both visually & for my tastebuds. There was cheese (goat maybe?) too but it was just random globs which didn't do much to help w/ the appeal of the dish. I tried the Orpheus beer & really enjoyed it - very light & summery. We also tried the whoopee pies dessert - you get 2 double chocolate cookie sandwiches w/ peanut butter filling or so it says. Honestly, I have a pretty good sweet tooth & it was even too much for me. The filling tasted more like a stick of butter w/ a few nuts & more sugar mixed in it. So overall my socks weren't knocked off or anything but I wouldn't have not recommended going there if you were in that area… That is until today. I happened to see in the news that they received a poor score on their recent health inspection - 59!!! That's not good people!!! Maybe if they lay off smoking the herb they can turn things around a bit.

I'm not a beer drinker so I probably have less appreciation of the Brick Store Pub. Apparently they are well known for the variety of beers served. I initially considered ordering a glass of wine, but the server suggested that I have a glass of cider. It was delicious. The server was also helpful to my companion in terms of selecting which beer to try. Even though it was Friday evening, no one tried to hurry us as we sat and chatted for a couple of hours. Be aware that the parking near the square in Decatur can be problematic in the evening, especially if the weather is nice.
