Rock City

We went to the mountain after finding out that dogs were allowed on leashes there (we were traveling with pets to a different destination but needed a road break and saw an ad) and it really is a gorgeous place. They offer a military discount too which isn't advertised but if you ask and have I.d. the checker will discount the tickets ( we spent a little over $40 for 2 adults). We just happened to be traveling during st. Patrick's day timeperiod so they were hosting "shamrock city" which was a neat little festival up on the mountain. They dyed the waterfall green though...it's neat but since this will be the only time I visit I wished that it was in its natural state. They have beer for sale ($17 w souvenier cup; $2 local brew pilsner& an ipa and one other but i cant recall what) up about half way through the enchanted trail near the Eagles nest. There's also a spot for kettle corn $4 a bag or $7 for two. There were areas of tight squeezes during the trail and it's definately not stroller friendly but there are some areas where you could take a stroller but you would be more limited in what you see. We used a carrier for our baby and it worked well until we got to the squeezes in the rock formations and the steep steps inside the fairytale caverns...speaking of fairytale- I am not a fan of the cheese factor there. It may have been a beautiful cave once but definately cheesy with the characters that are painted in neon colors and placed throughout - it really takes away from the natural beauty. And what's with the gnomes everywhere? Eh, it's a nice place to visit but I don't think I would go back even if in Chattanooga again.

Correction to visit: November 2013. Went to this attraction with extended family. Really enjoyed the Christmas lights as we went thru this attraction. The kids seemed to enjoy this a little more than the adults. It was cold out but we bundled up. I am glad we went. Think it is one of those places to at least visit once.

My 12 year old granddaughter and I thoroughly enjoyed Rock City. The views from many different places in the "park" are spectacular - and in a place or two almost "heart stopping"! We were there at the end of the Christmas season and the decorations were OK; that's not why you go there of course. The gnomes are fun to see and while some of the "décor" is a bit dated, that did not detract from our visit (as it did at another "attraction" in the area). We enjoyed exploring at our own pace. I think this would be a difficult visit in the summer heat and humidity. We were there in the late afternoon and the "quality" of the (day)light made it especially pretty. While you are in the area, drive around a bit in the little town; lovely!

This was such a let down to me and I am very easily amused. The lookout part was really the only part that was worth it and not $22 worth. We even went on the special Shamrock day and the only thing that seemed different was that they took a beautiful waterfall, died it green and had some bag pipe players(which was nice). The fairytale caverns was unlike anything I have ever seen and was actually scary(though not intended to be). They had taken naturally beautiful caverns, popped a few black lights in them and set up these SUPER dated and creepy fairy tale scenes. I wish we would have saved the $44 and done something else. We were only there an hour and had seen everything. How disappointing.

We visited on a cool, sunny day in February with 2 kids, and it was enjoyable. It was the off season apparently, so a lot of the shops were closed, but that is fine. They sell the touristy, overpriced "mandatory picture" that I detest, but I suckered up and overpaid for it because my kids were too cute in it. Overall, we had a good time!

On a recent trip to Chattanooga, we took a side trip to Rock City. What a great place adults and children. The views, the swinging bridges over a couple of gorges and gift shops were second to none! Will definitely be back again.

My wife and I went during Christmas, which I think is the best time to go. Don't get me wrong, it's nice in the summer too but the only thing I was impressed with was the amazing view (you can see 7 states from the top!). At Christmas, they have a giant tree at the entrance with "Jack Frost" greeting you. The path you walk through is lit up with all kinds of Christmas lights and light sculptures and it's pretty cool to see it all put together. The view of the city at night is like nothing you've ever seen. Another great part is the "underground" area where they have viewing windows set up to see various scenes set up with elves painted with glow-in-the-dark paint. It's like a fairytale land and the kids that I saw seemed to really love it. At the end, there's a large room set up with scenes from various stories and fairy tales all with glow-in-the-dark paint also. Don't forget to stop by the Starbucks located just outside the gates and take some warm coffee in with you!

This place offers a variety of nature views as well as some fun things thrown in. Walking through the "canyon" of boulders is quiet, if you go at the right time. I would not suggest the summer. Seeing the big stones and stopping to enjoy them is very relaxing. The view from the cliff is awesome as is the waterfall. The touristy gimmick stuff with the fairyland is cutesy but put of the overall experience none the less. We have a membership and enjoy going a couple times a year as a quick get away to Chattanooga, always combined with other activities. It is always a good part of the weekend get away.

Great view of seven states, cool mtn passageways, and glow in the dark gnome villages= awesome time!!! A little pricey though.... :(

See Rock City! Yes, it is a tourist trap. Yes the music they pipe in is cheesy. But, it is still worth the trip. The trail through the rock formations is just fun, it is as simple as that. On a clear day, the view from Lover's Leap is spectacular. It is not wheelchair accessible.
