What a marvelous experience. This must be the best venue in Georgia to enjoy a play or musical performance. Macon's Opera House dates back to the 1880s and is a classic monument to the grandeur of that era. The dome high above the audience twinkles with small lighted stars embedded in the ceiling. My wife and I made a pilgrimage to the Opera House to see "I Love Lucy," a national touring show created only a couple years ago as a musical comedy reenactment of actual skits from that cherished show during the glory days of early network TV; it was nostalgic roaring-out-loud-laughter-fun done flawlessly by an enthusiastic professional cast. The Opera House is kept alive these days by Mercer University, and it deserves a top grade for its dedication. I had always wanted to return here after I spotted the Opera House on a major downtown street during a business trip to Macon several years ago. It was great night, and we will be back. TIP: if you are a theater enthusiast, as we are, you will want to check the Grand Opera House's web site for upcoming events, inasmuch as plays seem to take a back seat to musical performances on the current calendar, but if you do see something you like, it is easy to buy tickets on the internet.

Macon has done a marvelous thing in restoring and maintaining this old opera house. It's gorgeous yet comfortable inside. We really enjoyed seeing it and seeing a show there.

Had dinner at the Opera House while visiting a friend in Andersonville. The building itself is 200 years old and very cool. The upstairs bar has an outside patio complete with ferns and comfortable furniture where you can sit and enjoy a beverage while watching the street traffic and imagining what it was like 200 years ago. Great place...

My first play, I saw at this theater on a school field trip AND my first dance recital was here too. I also graduated in this building in 1997. Very historical and beautiful building.

Do a concert here if you can. Broadway touring shows, local productions, world class entertainers, anyone and everyone. Just go see the place. Outside of the Fox Theater in Atlanta, WOW!

I was a little hesitant going to the opera on Macon, but this is a grand old building, and the experience was divine. The inner area has been redone, and it is such a step back in time. It 's beuatiful. We saw Les Miserable there, and the company was fantastic.Obviously , there are no New York set changes here, but the the theatre is small, and the atmosphere is very intense. Get yourself some tickets, I would imagine any show you see would be great.I loved it, and can't wait to go back :)

We saw "Les Miserables" with our family and loved this venue. It is a historical and traditional venue in our area....so glad we finally made it!!!! Beautiful and clean....

The main event we visit the Grand for is the annual John Berry Christmas concert. What a wonderful and pretty place. However, if you are like me and need leg room; I do not recommend a seat in the balcony. When I sat there for another concert, I felt very cramped and uncomfortable. The floor seats are fine. We love seeing John Berry here and will continue to go as long as he has concerts there. I have not missed one yet!

I go to several shows at the Grand each year. The staff is helpful, and the shows are always great! They have a Broadway series each year and it is great to be able to stay in Macon to watch a show instead of having to travel to Atlanta.

The Grand Opera House in Macon is a jewel of the theater. The acoustics are excellent and virtually every seat in the house is good. If you can get front row balcony, take it. The stage is fantastic and very large. Highly complicated productions are possible.

A gem of a theatre. The locals called it the Little Fox Theatre of Macon. It sort of was. Didn't notice any food or drink for purchase, but the ushers did not stop you if you had a covered cup in hand.

We have season tickets to the Broadway plays each season. Generally the plays are very good. Once of twice we have left when the language was not acceptable. The one problem that we have had with the Opera House as a building is the AC. Our seats are in the back directly in front of the air vents. We have to take a blanket with us when we go because it is so cold. They tell us that since it is an historic building there is not anything that can be done about the system. We are trying different seats this season. This problem seems to be an isolated one.

The Grand Opera House is a great venue in downtown Macon. I've been there many times for various performances and plays. It has a fairly large seating area but has a excellent intimate feel which only the older theaters do. The stage isn't really large but adequate for most productions. The sound quality is good. The seating is comfortable but just a bit small as it was made for the smaller body types of yesteryear. As a previous poster mentioned the grandkids series is a great way to see plays or portions of plays for homeschoolers.

If you are going for an evening play, expect to pay for it! They think highly of their theatre. Although all the plays we have been to have been great. We really enjoy the GrandKids series that they have available to the kids during the school year. We homeschool and this has been a great addition to our school year. These plays are always very reasonably priced.

Stopped by and Asked if we could see inside, Bob was gracious enough to not only allow us inside but provided us the history of this beautiful building.
