warm springs regional fisheries center

My family along with my nephews visited today. We visited years ago and were thrilled to go back.We had a great time and they loved seeing all the fish..We were a little disappointed the alligator wasn't there..maybe because its cooler now?..either way..Great trip and beautiful trees..oh..and the potty was clean..yes..clean bathrooms always help for a good review.

We stayed at FDR State Park over Thanksgiving & were looking for a place to walk around with the children (our twins are 10) that was outside & we could walk around. On Thanksgiving Day, the ponds were open. It was a bright, clear day with plenty of sunshine so we had a nice time there. Kids loved the ponds, seeing the fish, sitting for a bit & watching them swim. Lots for 4th graders to read. My kids are really into outdoors & both do scouts, so the "science" of the environment is interesting to them. I could see that this would be a quick visit for some children-especially younger ones, but our kids decided to read "everything"...LOL...so we were there for quite some time. There are coin operated dispensers of fish food so you can get a handful of feed , I think for a quarter maybe? Perhaps 50 cents. At any rate, interesting stop. My husband & I had been at Pine Mountain this past summer for a weekend get away & we had come by here-the museum part was open then. I think our kids would have enjoyed that part as well-small & informational with decent exhibits explaining the different fisheries, how they work & the spring/river eco-system(s), Maybe next time we are at the state park, we'll come back & our kids can see the little museum. There are bathrooms there-on the exterior of the building, but neither the museum or the bathrooms were open on Thanksgiving day (understandably).

I took two grandchildren, ages 9 and 15, on a hot summer day. It was a relief to enter the air conditioned museum building, but it didn't have much space for too many people. Fortunately, no school classes were visiting, and we had the place to ourselves. The exhibits are educational, there just aren't many of them. It was fun to see the ponds and the boardwalk. This place could definitely benefit from some docents, or employees who can expound upon what we saw.

After visiting fish hatcheries in other parts of the state over the years, I thought it would be fun to take my family to another one. However, there were no workers present, and other than a small museum/aquarium on the grounds and the fish ponds themselves, it was not very informative or interesting.We tried to make the most of it, looking at all of the ponds we could, but without a guide or markers or anything, it was just looking at fish and water. It was ok, but would have been much better if there had been a guide.We also didn't apparently have access to the smaller hatcheries, where the fry are grown large enough to be put in these outdoor ponds. Those were fascinating to see in our previous tours at other hatcheries, so it was disappointing that there was no one around to talk to about them here.Maybe we just came at a bad time, but it was disappointing from a recreation, education, or attraction perspective.

A relaxing walk to see how the fishes are protected. Enjoyed feeding the fish & seeing a baby gator... Landscaping's worth the visit. Warm & friendly receptionist.

You cannot beat this place. We are locals to warm springs. My kids and I live right down the road, and walk her at least once a week! It's completely free...the only money you need is a few quarters for fish food. But they have a small indoor aquarium too, which my kids love!

I was looking for things to do in Warm Springs with the men in my family and this fit the bill! A beautiful place for walking and enjoying the free sights on a sunny day. The indoor center gives you a good idea of what the fisheries center does for our environment.

We visited in December and were the only ones there. The Center has a small indoor aquarium where you can see some of the freshwater fish the center raises. Outside you can see the ponds where the fish are raised. You can also buy some fish food to feed to the pond of fish, so bring some quarters.This place is not large so a visit should only take 30 minutes to an hour. Still, the Center is free (except for the optional fish food), so if you are in the area drop by.

This was a nice way to spend some time. I have never seen fish as big as I saw here! The area is well maintained and serves a great purpose. It is well worth the visit.

Enjoyed stopping at the small aquairium and seeing the alligator pond. The sceney is pretty and a paradise for bird watchers (like me). Everything is free to view and there are some walking trails as well.

I would like to see the holding tanks cleaned and maintained better. really educational.

This is a neat place to see how fish are raised. The kids can feed the huge goldfish and get a look at the aligators. There is an aquarium with different types of fish and species of animals that are in the area. Worth checking out on your next visit through Warm Springs.
