It is best to get here early in the morning to avoid the groups on the hill and to find a place to park. We started the climb at 9:30 and by the time we got back down, around 12:00 the lot was full and closed. do all the things the signs say - bring water; wear good shoes; stop if you feel ill - this is NOT a climb for a 'family outing' unless the family is fit and up for it !

We hiked the Echo Trail. Parking was difficult and we had to drive around for a bit until the lot opened back up. Definitely make sure you wear proper shoes and take lots of water! The hike was challenging, it was not just walking on a trail! Getting to the summit was such an accomplishment but coming back down was almost as hard! I highly recommend the hike, just be prepared!

TOUGH climb for beginners....but the payoff at the top is WELL worth it! Would strongly suggest you make the hike in the early morning hours. Wear proper shoes, and take at least 32oz of water. Easy trails to stay on, but some of the climbs are pretty interesting. Hard work, but lots of fun!

Great workout getting all the way to the top with amazing views of Scottsdale and other parts of Phoenix. Would definitely like to go back. We did the Cholla trail.

My husband and I are not frequent hikers and we decided to try Camelback. It was a nice climb that was lenty challenging but definitely fun for a first experience.

We were only in Phoenix for 2 days to attend a wedding and wanted to do some hiking the morning of the wedding. Camelback Mountain provided a convenient, in-town opportunity. We read about the 2 trails and opted for the Cholla Trail as a bit easier and "less crowded" then the Echo Park trail. For Cholla, you must park along Invergorden Street then walk through a fancy neighborhood to the trailhead. Check out the house right across the street from the trailhead with a glass room displaying a bunch of vintage motorcycles. Some kind person left a big box of bananas at the trailhead for hikers. The trail is nicely maintained and it really is beautiful. But if you can possibly do so, avoid going on the weekend, especially the first weekend of baseball spring training. At 8:00 am the trail was packed with a variety of people, some of whom were ill prepared for a strenuous hike. Worse, some people were simply rude. It was just too crowded for trail running (yet there were a lot of these people who seemed pretty annoyed that the rest of us were in their way) but worse were people who just seemed to be in some kind of hurry and were pushy. Perhaps on days like this, the other trail is less crowded, and might be preferable even if it harder. The mountain itself is beautiful, full of cacti and blooming wildflowers. But if I ever go back to Phoenix and want to hike, I will get up earlier, travel a little further, and get somewhere a little more remote.

Camelback is a single mountain but it has two totally separatehikes, Echo and Cholla; I have been up both!

We had a wonderful time but it is not a small or easy endeavor! We lucked out cause the weather was cool- I would not do this on a super hot day.

Went for a "hike" up Camelback Mountain with my son and daughter last week. I've been looking forward to this for many years. Finally did it! Took a few breaks on the way up Echo Trail. It took about 3 hours start to finish. I can't imagine doing this hike in the summer. It was awesome making it to the summit. A great accomplishment!!!

Its a fabulous walk but I wouldn't do this during the middle of the day, its too hot. Generally go first thing in the morning like 8 a.m. to avoid the heat.

Fantastic hike up and around Camelback Mountain. While my husband was attending business meetings, I left him a note and said I was going to climb a mountain! What a hike to take in Phoenix - if you like to hike, take a challenge and see gorgeous views, this is the place to go in Phoenix. If you don't have the appropriate shoes, you can find good affordable shoes a nearby locations. Take your water, hat and sunscreen and you're ready for a great hike in the most scenic area anywhere - loved this hike!

We had an absolute blast "climbing" Camelback last weekend. Make sure you allot enough time. We went pretty slow with breaks and it took us about 2 hours to get up and 1 hour to get down. (No breaks on the way down) Also- make sure you dress appropriately and bring a couple of bottle waters.

A great morning's climb, conveniently close to Scottsdale- Very tough, physically and technically but the reward of fantastic views and a thousand calories of American food burned off. Take sturdy shoes and be careful not to slip!

What a great name!! and it is very interesting as a place - quite unusual and with many types of cacti and lots of little rodents running around. Enjoyed the place.
