All the LCFP have something special to offer. Independence Grove has a very nice beach, swimming, and boating options. Lakewood has excellent trails and a museum, as well as winter recreation area. Free for lake county residents, great example of taxes going to the right place.

We are so fortunate to live in Lake County IL where open space is cherished! We frequently use the well maintained bike paths and dog parks.

Great area and paths for all activities. A lot of photo opps, the colors in the fall are the best. In the summer there's a beach at the lake.

Enjoy the cool breezes and negative ions of the 3/4 mile rocky beach at the Fort Sheridan Forest Preserve. You need to hike or bike down from the parking lot. There are two toilets in the lot, but none at the beach. Bring your own drinking water as well. Bird-watch, picnic and/or relax.Enter at Simonds Way, off Sheridan Road. Follow the signs to the parking lot. It's an easy walk down to the lake -- even while pushing your stroller, carrying your chairs, and shlepping your lunch and sunscreen. This is a non-swimming/wading beach. There are no life guards.
