The mansion isn't always open. There were very few guests during January. It is a very interesting building. I would love to see the gardens in Spring.

I've been here for functions and as a random visitor with friends from out of town. Best feature: the gardens.

Learn so much when we where there. enjoy it. Hope will go back down there someday. Learn so much about this place

Mansion, when open, isn't really that great of a place to visit. Grounds look like a jungle as they are normally overgrown and unkempt. Interior of the building is for the most part in need of major work.

A very historic building, with old fashion furniture. We went there as part of a function and its well preserved and pretty. The grounds are well kept and if you come to Springfield I would recommend a visit

If you get the chance to tour this home, do it! It is well worth taking time to visit one of the oldest Governor's Mansion's in the United States. Expecially during the holiday season.

Typical of Illinois government the sign says one thing but the gates are closed. Left a bad taste in my mouth but whatever.

It had been a number of years since I visited the Mansion so I decided to return. This is the largest and third oldest governor’s mansion in America. The gardens were in bloom and are small but beautiful. The guide explained the use to which the rooms are put and that the silver pieces were intended for the U.S.S. Illinois that was scrapped before completion at the end of World War II. She put a human touch on the house by filling our mind’s eye with the corwds and sounds that fill its rooms during busy events. Unfortunately the second floor is under repair so we only got a description of the ornate furniture that we will see when we return. The tour only takes about 30 minutes and is well worth it.

The lady giving the tour had been doing it many years. She really enjoyed sharing all she knew about the Mansion. We enjoyed all of the details she was able to share. There's a gate on the side that you have to buzz into to get in the mansion.

Check the web site for tour times because there is a narrow window of times. Ring the bell at the guard house, and the gate will open. You walk past gorgeous gardens that are tended by one gardener. Most of the plants and flowers have been donated, so you will see lots of ads about them. We waited just inside the front door of the mansion until our guide came to collect us. He spoke about the current governor and how the house is used by him as well as by many organizations for functions and as a wedding venue from time to time. The home itself is lovely yet aging. Some of it has been refurbished, but as anything else, it takes money, so it is a slow go. There are many beautiful treasures inside that are worth seeing. We enjoyed the tour, especially the garden.

I attended an event here and was impressed by the history and beauty of the mansion. The rooms are well preserved and lavishly decorated in the colonial style. The staff were friendly, efficient, and made this a memorable event for my family. We had pictures taken in their gardens, where the summer flowers were in full bloom. This was truly an unforgettable evening for all of us!

The executive mansion is available for free tours a few hours every week. The building is impressive, but there are some signs of disrepair. The interior has a lovely decor, appropriate to the time of construction. The gardens are fairly well maintainted by volunteer and student organizations.

The mansion porch is in disrepair, the yards are terrible and the inside area where we met the Governor showed wear and tear.Let's appropriate the money where our Governor lives and where people from our state and others visit. What an emabarrasment.
