We bought the best tickets to the concert and got the worst seats. Their hall is irregularly shaped, so they had cheap seats facing musicians and leaving a lot of room for dancers, while the more pricey seats were to the side of the musicians. We got a great view of their left ears and not much else. The 20 or 30 people who danced got a good space, but 200 who paid for their tickets were in Siberia. Except that it was overheated rather than cold – bad ventilation.Their big band was good, the guest singer was dripping sugar, very lame, but their seating setup was the killer. Some people left early, but we waited for the break to escape.

The Vermont Jazz Center seems like a labor of love and that is very much appreciated by the audience. My boyfriend is a big jazz aficionado and I'm more of just a fan. That being said we both were really surprised and happy to find such a great resource for live jazz music in Vermont. Classic jazz has become harder to find outside of larger cities and the odd festival. We've seen 2 shows (Louis Hayes & the Big Band Gala with Houston Person) this fall and winter. Both were top notch and we can't wait to go back. The Jazz Center is a little ways out of town in an old cotton mill. If you are unfamiliar with the area it can appear a little creepy in the dark. But have no fear, once you have navigated the serpentine hallways to the performance space you will find a nicely-sized L-shaped room with an adjacent space for the snack table and bar. It's a great place to enjoy a show along with other like-minded jazz fans.
