This edifice, that used to be The Masonic Lodge, is the home of The Northeast Kingdom's performance coordinators. Because of their determination to make Saint Johnsbury a destination for people who value "the arts", a tremendous array of stars is presented throughout the year in a variety of venues throughout the area. We are blessed with talent in these mountains. Local professional and amateur musicians and actors perform here or in many of the local churches or reconfigured buildings up and down the river valleys. First Night on December 31st. should not be missed! Keep an eye on their website for events, and circle your calendar. You will be glad that you did.

The theatre was wonderful. It has charm and history and the shows are fantastic . We drove up from RI to see Pink Martini twice, the prices are soooooo reasonable, and the people are welcoming . If you get the chance, definitely catch a show here.

Very small theater that is playing current movies at a very inexpensive price!! Even the refreshment stand was great! Highly recommend this when you run out of outdoor things to do!

We visited for a screening of the Oscar-nominated short films. There is an art gallery off the lobby that was interesting to peruse while we waited for our theater to be begin seating. The theater is quite intimate (read: small) but comfortable and there is a real sense of community among the movie-goers in such a tight space. Indeed, although we were tourists it does seem like a great way to meet one's neighbors. The bottled water and snacks are much less expensive than a regular movie theater, which also helps earn this venue my recommendation for catching a film.

Catamount Arts is a great addition to the town of St. Johnsbury. It offers a wide range of the arts. Movies and facilities are all top notch. They do wonderful work in and around St. Johnsbury.

We are so fortunate to have this wonderful facility right in St. Johnsbury. The quality of films shown is outstanding. The films range from international to national to local. This fall we enjoyed seeing an excellent display of photos by U.S. Senator Patrick Leahy. These photos covered many national and world leaders from the senator's unique viewpoint. Because of his position, he was often in middle of whatever event was occurring. At various times, we have enjoyed music events hosted at Catamount Arts.

The art gallery always has amazing displays. The movies are great and varied and there is almost always some kind of excellent entertainment to choose from.

Catamount Arts brings art films, displays challenging and professional artwork, and is the channel for fantastic music into this part of Vermont. I especially like wandering in the gallery in the afternoon, connecting with exhibits. My most recent visit was with my husband, to see a major film, with comfortable seating, and an appealing assortment of refreshments -- my fave is still the fresh (real!) popcorn.

Only place within a hundred miles to see art films. Also special exhibitions, talks, etc. Good choice of films.

Great movies, at least two featured each day, with special ones several days a week , usually the current indie, art, and foreign films we prefer. Also a huge selection of DVDs to borrow, not just those on display, but binders well organized to peruse of the covers from the DVDs available. Always great local art on display with rotating shows in the gallery. This is now a location for the Metropolitan Opera simulcasts which are fabulous and make great performances so accessible now. There are various classes ongoing for spanish, music, and dance. Special live entertainment is offered downstairs at scheduled times with comedy or folk music for example. Lectures are offered regularly. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Great place to drop in, get a coffee or tea, and explore. Popcorn, candy and soft drinks available.

What a treat to walk into a gallery, and enjoy an exhibit of local art. There are movies as well, and performances scheduled, but my visit was to see the art. Next door is a restaurant, Dylan's, with an extension of the gallery. Art hangs on the walls of the restaurant; good food and a view of local culture.

Catamount FIlm and Arts is in a historic Masonic Temple, next door to another historic building that it used to inhabit. This larger space provides a larger space for a gallery, which exhibits local art and changes frequently; and allows for two theatres. There is generally one film that is a little off the beaten track, with strong reviews by critics, and another film that is more mainstream. The movies are carefully selected, and generally only stay in town for one week. Catamount also has a library of movies to rent, with a broader selection independent and art house films that Red Boxes, etc. Walking in to view the gallery or browse over the movie rentals is free, and would take most people less than an hour. Movies have an admission charge. Events vary. The length of your visit would vary if you are attending an event, of course. They sell popcorn and soda but I don't recall any other "food". The historic building next door, that used to house them, is now "Dylan's Cafe", which serves healthy food at lunch. There are stairs - I expect there is an elevator, given federal law and their mission, but I haven't looked for it. There are actually quite a few stairs even to get to the main entrance, so you'd want to call for find out about the handicapped entrance if stairs are a problem for you.Catamount also sponsors a variety of live events, as well as educational offerings. These vary, but have included tango lessons, Spanish lessons, videography camps, etc. They vary in their offerings for youth, but often host a Friday open mic for teens, as well as an opportunity for teen filmmakers to show their work in a festival.Right now they are hosting a year-long series called "Courageous Conversations" with a free panel discussion or other means of sharing the topic one evening per month (second Thursdays), and a free movie each week (Mondays) on the topic of the month. Poverty, racism, health care, mental health, violence, food chain, environment, etc.Their mission is to serve the local community, and they do a great job of that. They have youth on their board, as well as local artists and entrepreneurs. They don't aim to serve tourists, so it is hit or miss, when you happen to be travelling through, whether they will have something to interest you. But if you enjoy rural life and the arts, and are thinking of relocating or buying a second home, you would do well to check out this scene. You may fall in love.I live here, and have enjoyed MANY events and activities through Catamount Arts: solo, as a family and especially as a couple.

And more in a noteworthy historic building that is the cultural hub of St. Johnsbury. Helpful staff, too.
