We arrived any there didn't seem to be anybody around. We walked around and found the farmer and asked about tours. He said they don't do that anymore. He did allow us to go in and see the cows which was nice. We tried to stay out of their way.

A visit to this farm is truly a gift! Both the family and the farm animals are warm and welcoming. We've never seen such happy, engaged, and curious animals - they are truly well-loved and well-taken care of. The family is extremely knowledgeable and dedicated to the dairy farm, and you can taste the difference in their milk! We had a wonderful time petting newborn jersey cows, feeding the goats, milking a cow, and learning an incredible amount about dairy farming! All I have to say is, 'I would love to be a part of their family . . . or at least one of their cows.'

My family, including my four year old daughter Vitoria made the jaunt out to The Milky Way Organic Farm today from Killington, VT. the drive is very pleasant and no more than 30 minutes or so.The farm is actually part of a tiny hamlet on route 133 called Ira consisting of little more than a few homes, the farm and a church. MWOF is comprised of about 130 acres roughly bisected by the road. One of the owners, Mary met us at the door of her little country store set to one side of her impeccable white colonial. One can tell instantly that Mary is "good people". Armed with food for the goats, she lead my daughter Vitoria across the road and gave us the most thorough tour of a working organic dairy farm that you will ever see. Mary didn't hold back - she brought out her biggest guns first. Much to our pleasure we were greeted by maybe 5 or 6 calves no more than a few weeks old. There was even one born just the day before. The wobbly little critters are so cute it should be against the law. Having been a teacher, Mary was able to keep our little girl engaged while giving us an amazing education on the real, day to day drama that is being a farmer. After playing with the calves and feeding the goats (watch out these guys are super friendly but hungry - your purse or jacket will do fine) we got to see the herd and then we met Farmer Bob. Farmer Bob is not just another pretty face - this guy knows his stuff. Don't let the tough exterior fool you - he's a softy. Mary & Bob showed us the milking equipment and a huge stainless steel tank where they keep the daily milkings. We got to meet a few more cows and then my wife and daughter got to actually milk a cow! We got a special treat when the milk tanker arrived to collect the milk. It was incredibly interesting learning how the food you eat travels from it's creation to the shelf. Mary then took us to pet her bunny rabbits and she even got our daughter a snack! As Vitoria sampled an organic yogurt we picked out a couple of toys in the store and had a very nice conversation with Mary about the trials and tribulations of dairy farming over the last couple decades. Don't forget to check www.milkywayorganicfarm.com as they have daily storytelling, yoga and more! Please pay Mary & Bill a visit and help out our farmers! We need them!

On a beautiful Sunday in October my fiancee and I set out to the Milky Way for the chance to milk and pet a cow. Since this is a working farm, we first saw farmer Rob on his tractor working and he directed us to the main house to speak with his wife Mary about a tour. For the next hour plus she led us around the farm, explaining it's history and talking about all the various cows they have. We met some very playful young ones who were not shy at all about being petted, some teenage cows who couldn't be friendlier, and some adults who were just delightful. All of them were receptive to human contact and pleased by the attention. We then got the chance to get under one and try our hand at milking. It's harder then it looks but Rob and Mary are very helpful and will make sure you get it right. We then went inside to a very cute gift shop and since it was my fiancee's birthday they have us some gifts of Chocolate Milk and Cheese. It was a great way to spend some time, kids would have a blast there, and if you go just make sure to wear boots and clothes you're not afraid to get dirty.
