On the campus of University of Vermont, this little gem is a great rainy-day venue for visitors and locals alike. Highly recommended in an "outdoors" City where they are few indoor attractions, especially of the calibre found here.

Went there by myself, ready for a nice afternoon. It was during thanksgiving week-end, the canadian one anyways, and it was also during the U of Vermont friends and family weekend. Wow first moment of silence and calm available of my time in town. Great paintings, but what made me happy was the Penelope sculpture which is beyond comparison, as well as the african section. Will go back anytime.

I like this museum. It is small but has a little sampler of many of the great civilizations from history. I also like that there is also an emphasis to showcase Vermont history. Spend the two hours. It is worth it. Then go to the Davis student and browse the " Made In Vermont " store. You may just find a little gem. All proceeds go to the entrepreneur fund for the business students.

The Fleming has 10-12 distinct display areas, each focused on a different theme or geography. In each area, there is a small but very fine collection, well-annotated. So, unlike the situation in many museums, here you don't get exhausted or overwhelmed. The spaces are all attractive and the exhibits are interesting. We spent a very pleasant 90 minutes here (and saw everything that was on display).

Here is a hidden gem! Your children will adore the mummy, and the Norman Rockwell will please them, too. Rockwell's "Save the Babysitter" is so much fun for all ages. There is quite a bit to see, and special exhibits and a nice gift shop will make your visit just right. The museum is small enough to see it all and large enough to include such a wonderful variety of works. See the Fleming!

Parking next to the museum was free with a pass from the museum. We enjoyed the Native American Art collection which includes objects from across America and not just from Vermont and New England. A special exhibit of some of John Singer Sergent's paintings are now on view. The Pacific Island nations' exhibits were quite interesting, too. We plan on going there again on our next visit.

I learned about the Fleming in an article in BUDGET TRAVEL (along with campus art museums at Williams and MIddlebury Colleges). We do like art and museums and we were looking for something to do in Burlington now that some of the summer-season-only museums and historic sites have closed. The Fleming was a good choice for us; it has a very eclectic collection plus a number of temporary exhibits that we found very interesting. The temporary exhibits mean that there will be something new to see the next time we visit. No photos allowed in the museum. Very, very small museum shop (a couple of bookshelves only). Free parking in campus visitors lot.

Located on the campus of the University of Vermont,The Fleming Art Museum has a fine collection of paintings by Vermont-connected artists like;Paul Sample("Haircut"),Herbert Meyer(MondayMorning,Pawlet,Vermont"),Howard Giles("Nineteenth Psalm"),and Charles Heyde("Mount Mansfield"). I also appreciated this museum's very small collection of European Old Master paintings by artists like;Lambert Doomer("Couple With Globe"),Govaert Flinck("Boy with Plumed Hat"),Adrien Van De Velde("Sheep by Brook"),Fragonard("Shepherdess"),and George Romney("Anna Seward").This museum has a small,but interesting collection of ancient Egyptian artifacts. Everything in this relatively small museum is well-labelled and well-explained.
