Thirty years ago this was a busy, happening place, but in recent years its reputation has suffered as the clientele has changed and the word has gotten around that it is unsafe. There is easy parking now, as there are so few cars in the lot, compared to how it used to be.

Why do you go to the mall? To see and be seen or to shop? Chapel Hill is very adequate for a successful and comfortable shopping trip. I have never felt unsafe there, even in the parking lot at night. The chapel hill area is not Fairlawn, neither is it the ghetto. It is average Akron. I would recommend shopping there. You will find what you are looking for, and you may even enjoy yourself.

This mall has all the shops you need to get your shopping done, the mall is also safe and has a friendly atmosphere for families and teenagers.

There still remain many good products to be purchased here. I am not sure that all is lost. But the prospect for rapid recovery is not strong or positive now. Maybe the future is bleaker than I and others can imagine. The mall is not getting the right set of affluent customers now. It needs these people. Why was so much space devoted to building the huge parking lots that remain empty today? The vast space outside Sears store is an example. Low cost homes and housing for underprivileged people, retired folk or poor people might have been a better choice to have been made here. This region will need it soon as more people can not afford to relocate to traditional retirement areas of the country and want to remain here. Certain mistakes were made years ago. Too large of a space was set aside for parking vehicles on both sides of the mall. They remain empty today and have been empty for too many years now. Space for schools and something else was there. Notice the number of ethnic restaurants that have closed near by in recent years. Far too much space was devoted to far too many stores many of which were selling much of the same good common merchandise. How many restaurants do we need? Did you ever wonder why there are so many restaurants in this type of commercial neighborhood? Disposal or discretionary income is not in abundance here. Did you ever wonder what was done with merchandise that was not sold? As for skeezy looking people near by and inside yes they are there in larger numbers that needs to be for the mall to be a safe-looking or an acceptable place for shopping. I more concerned with vagrants using the parking lots and empty store fronts. Merchandise inside stores was not always enough to keep affluent customers coming back. Last century was a good time for me and otters to shop here. Conditions have changed dramatically since then. I do not think it is because of the same reasons that account for the demise of the Rolling Acres Mall. This region is not now or has it been the place for affluent people to live in large numbers. Working class people live here. There is a limit as to how much money these people have had to spend. There is a limited number of retail stores that this income group can support. Not too many of them are winning lotteries. This is part of the mythology of american society. I have always been troubled by the large number of good stores outside or away from the main mall area - on the periphery of the principal mall. Where was regional planning for cooperation for things other than commercial expansion and related purposes? This mall is located near the connecting points of two or three cities. The need for tax and other revenues must have been greater than others had expected to account for locating such large are of stores in this area. Poor planning. If you need a better example of why the study of economics is urgently needed in schools I do not know where you will find it. Should this area have been set aside for more medical services? This is a vast area to be better utilized! The same area has attracted people from as far away as the university region around Kent or Tallmadge and Portage county. You do not see many Jaguars or Mercedes in the parking lots. People who specialize in shopping with coupons come here in large numbers but not for much longer unless conditions change. Too much of the same commercial expansion was permitted to grow without control or regulations. Two many commercial store spaces inside have changed. I am not sure that the arrangement of anchor stores was correct. The number of much smaller retail space in the middle of the mall has troubled me too. The quintessential things of life are not in abundance. The wrong teenagers and other misdirected youth or adults can damage the reputation of the mall. This large number of commercial retail stores attracts too much traffic. Maybe the same merchandise we are familiar with at other malls can not not be found here I have not studied this aspect of shopping in depth. But many of the larger stores do offer some good products at low prices. But there are too many of the same type of stores selling the same type of merchandise now - maybe to the detriment of too many customers But today's customers are not same as what the mall needs to turn things around. Too many teenagers and younger people interested in going to the food court and doing little else dominate the flow of people who browse instead.

What can I say? Its better than Rolling Acres, and worse than Summit Mall. The place is usually pretty clean, and, contrary to other reviewers, I have never felt unsafe here. Yes, the area around Chapel Hill is sort of the borderland of ghetto Akron and nicer Cuyahoga Falls, but Ive always found the mall to be okay. Yes, there are some skeezy looking people in it, but they've never caused a problem.The stores are just so-so. A lot of the big anchor stores are here, but it certainly isnt upscale. If you want to shop the bigger names, this mall is a good place to go. If you want a more upscale experience with better brands, nicer food options, and a higher caliber of shoppers, go to Summit Mall.

Not sure what it is. But, maybe it's the circa-1970s design. Or the vast but mostly empty parking lots. Or the JC Penney virus. Or that it was reportedly built on a Native American burial ground. or that you won't find ANYTHING here that you can't find ANYWHERE else. Like, online, say.Spare yourself. Stay at home and shop. "But they have a Starbucks," you say.Yeah. You can buy Starbucks grind at Walmart now. Make it at home. See ya.

If you have to go to the mall, I recommend traveling a little further and go to one of the other malls in the region. This mall has slowly gone downhill. Food court has limited options. I don't even think there is a McDonald's in the food court. You know things are bad when McDonald's pulls out.

Honestly, I have lived in Akron all my life and I can tell you that Chapel Hill is outdated and attracts alot of riff-raff from the area. If you are coming to Akron and staying at any of the area hotels, you will already be on the west side of the city (Chapel hill is on the East side) so your best bet is Summit Mall or the Montrose area for shopping and restaurants. The front desk of the hotel will point you in the right direction.

Has a lot of clothes and shoes stores. Good variety of store more middle income folks. Not too pricy. Great mall for walking especially in the early morning. Better to shop there during daylight hours. Not a real safe place to go after dark. Food court OK but nothing special. Nice fountain area in center of mall next to Starbucks. One of the oldest malls around but kept pretty clean. Very nice upscale Penneys and Macy's. Very good access from I-77.

I liked it!! nothing more! If you do`t have any other option, as we have in Akron, you need to live with it. I liked more the food court though!

Chapel Hill mall is in average condition with 3 anchors (Macy's, JC Penney, Sears), an unstable food court with 2-3 slots either empty or filled with something sketchy and a below-average complement of smaller stores, missing many of the currently "hot" stores. Several national specialty stores have recently updated their spaces or rebuilt in other locations within the mall. That said, I don't really mind the mall itself; what I mind is that EVERY SINGLE OPEN SPACE in the mall is filled with vending machines, games and kiosks with sales clerks accosting everyone that walks past! No, I don't want to try the (e-cigs, dead sea salts, lotions, etc)..... It's like a flea market - Doesn't help the overall experience one bit. With this in mind, Summit Mall does a much better job of managing the guest experience without trying to lease space in 12 square foot pieces.

Fantastic place to shop if you and your baby mamma need some new Nikes! Has a few places to get your grub on or pick up a new hat. However, the biggest attraction seems to be long and spacious hallways for you and your crew to mack on some honies or just generally walk around looking menacing.There is ample parking and the lots are well-lit. You never feel rushed or crowded. If you have ever done any time in an Ohio penal institution you will be sure to find people you recognize. The food court is a great place to discover long lost cellmates!!The mall in Fairlawn (Summit Mall) is a much better option. They have an Apple store, JCrew, Gap, Dillards, Macy's etc. Take the 20 min drive to the west side and skip Chapel Hill mall all together.

Average mall, just closer than summit mall. But go toSummit mall for better selection and location. Could use some renovations and new look.

This mall used to be top notch , but the current mix of stores leaves much to be desired. It's fine to pick up something quick, but NOT a shopping experience. They have a no unaccompanied teenagers policy in effect on the weekends.

Not a bad place for a little shopping. Didn't like the area and the traffic at all. A few stores I was looking for I couldn't find, and I didn't find them here either.
