My friend and I enjoy taking educational classes. Cooking, photography, glass blowing, etc.... So when we found the opportunity to take a stain glass class we jumped to it! The class was offered on a site that gave a discount, so that was nice. Although, because of that I think there were too many people there. We made a square sun catcher. We we shown how to cut glass then we we off. Not too much instruction, but they were helpful if you had a question. You were given the square piece for the center and then had to cut the frame on the outside. You were permitted to choose the colors you liked. Once you take some time practicing how to cut the glass you try your best to do so. Then you need to smooth the edges on a special tool. This was tricky, as they only had about 6 of these machines for 20 people. Lots of waiting. Then you wrap your pieces in copper tape. Once it has the tape around the edges you have to solder it together. Again, not enough tools for everyone and this step takes even longer. Also, you needed one of the two instructors to come over and look at your finished piece to make sure it was properly done. They were spread a little thin with so many students in the class. Took about 2 hours from start to finish. Overall and enjoyable morning making an artistic piece that I enjoy. Also, stained glass is a bit of a lost art, so I think it is important to support local shops. If you aren't interested in a class they have a lovely gift shop with everything from bowls to jewelry to kitchy items that you may not see everywhere. A wonderful selection of christmas ornaments and other beautiful glass pieces. I would return if ever in the area again.

SA & G has been around for many, many years. Community members recognize it as a place to go for unique gifts and decorative items, many made by local artists. You can also take classes to learn the art of stained glass making. Don't be surprised if you are greeted by a dog or two. Wendy Joliet, the owner, typicaly has canine companions in the store, notably an English Sheepdog. Vist their website at http://studioartsandglass.com/ and you can play a virtual version of Brewster. They have regular, seasonal events and activities that are very enjoyable and always well done. The store can be a bit hard to find, but there are several signs to guide you. It's worth the trip.
