I was born and raise at this lake. It is not what it used to be when I was younger. Yes the water is red, we are in Oklahoma after all, but the place is a beautiful place. I visit there often with my husband, children and friends. We fish, swim, picnic and go out on the boat at this lake. I feel very blessed and grateful to be a part of this lake. There is much history with this lake, just ask the locals. And if your lucky you might find an arrowhead tucked away somewhere. It has a strong Native American Spirit to it.

The lake provides great views, but is very "red" muddy. There are many places to camp and well to just have a panic. The best thing is that it is so close to the city and can easily be visited in a day!

This a very beautiful place. There is a nice restaurant by the lake but it is only open for dinner. This picture of the great blue heron was taken by the restaurant on the side of the lake. We took a look at many camping sites for tents. Some of them were interesting with nice grass. The restrooms were clean but extremely small. We prefererred camping in a KOA cabin for camping this time but the park was really beautiful. Maybe we'll go camping in a tent some other time when it is not as hot.

Arrived close to sunset. Some wildlife. Looked like people were swimming. Areas for picnics. Primitive toilet facilities, but they were clean.

We have been boating at Thunderbird for over 20 years. My children grew up on the lake. We usually go to the restaurant a few times a year, and have always enjoyed it.The lake is kind of dirty, and some of the people can be interesting, but overall we have always had a good time.

We enjoy going out on the weekend and eating at the restaurant on the lake and listening to music on the weekends.

Nice place to go visit, specially during sunset. Sometimes the park is closed due to weather related conditions, so check before visiting. Recommended.

A good area for summer camping. The cool wind from the Lake is chilling. come with your food and play some games.

Our visit was out of season so no amenities open. Walked one of the short trails and saw some wild deer which was great. Views across the lake were lovely

We don't ski or swim much here. They have very nice and easy hiking trails for adults and kids. The camp sites are very nice. You can bike or walk the trails. The trails are well marked. It is clean and safe.

I grew up living one mile from Lake Dirtybird (as we lovingly call it) and love going there. Keep in mind this is a state park so will not have anything extravagant but they have some really good campsites for RV's on the Alameda Street side. It also has tent sites as well but I have not used those so cannot give you much information on that. Bait and groceries are not too far away but I always stop before I get to the lake to save money on supplies. I never go over to the Highway 9 side, except for Clear Bay Cafe and I love that place. You can drive or boat up to the cafe and they have some really good music in season on the weekends. The campsites over on the Alameda Street side are clean and have plenty of room for a small RV. They have concrete pads and water but last time I was there, no sewer hookups, although there is a dump station there. The camp host is very nice and knows the area and is more than willing to help anyway possible, but won't bother you unless you ask. If you do decide to swim here, get ready to ruin some clothes/bathing suits because they will be dyed red dirt. This is more of a fishing and relaxing lake than a swimming lake (IMO) but it is a very relaxing place to stay and to fish. Being so close to a large metro area though, it is packed on the weekends in season, so if you want to camp in a good spot, get there on Thursday!

I love the biking trails in this park. They range from easy-extreme. Helmets are required on these trails. I would also pack extra water. The hard ones are really hard.

If you enjoy calm water, lovely sunsets, and sitting around the quiet campfire then Little Sandy is a nice place to bring your small to mid-size RV. There are also a few sites to accommodate large buses, but those are certainly more limited. The camp host is friendly and leaved you alone. We come here several times a year for a quick and inexpensive vacation close to home.
