I've been here three times and it's a fun little community theater that performs melodramas (a different one each season). I think it's been running for nearly 50 years. They give you a bucket of popcorn and have a little sing along prior to the play. The audience "ahhhhs" when the heroine comes on stage and boos/hisses when the villain appears. Between each act another crew comes on and performs cute little song/dance numbers, some performed with volunteer audience members. They are all so nice and seem to be having such a good time. Beverage items are reasonably priced and after the play, the whole cast lines up outside to shake hands and thank everyone for coming.

This is a hidden gem of the Southern Oregon coast. This is not a night at the "Thee-a-taahh", this is campy comedy fun! The script is written around local area lore and quite funny. You don't have to know all the inns and outs to understand that Empire's Balboa Club is the shady part of town. The cast of characters bring you along the journey of the stories about the communities. The roles are very well played and draw you in. This show is not to be missed.

Don't miss the summer showing at the Sawdust Theatre. It is an old fashion melodrama that includes dancing, singing and audience participation. They are only open tom June 6 - Labor day but this is a great show. It will make you laugh and sing a long! The theatre serves a variety of beer and wine. There is free popcorn and candy available too. I go every year and its always a hoot. The volunteer cast is amusing and very talented. This years melodrama is "The Colossal Cranberry Caper" or "Boondogled in the Bog". Take a group and join in the fun.
