Sunday, August 31, 2014, I visited Sweet Creek Falls area in the Siuslaw National Forest in Mapleton, Oregon (Between Eugene and Florence). I was visiting my nieces and we were on our way from Eugene to Florence and they convinced me it was a good place to stop.I'm not a hiker. Not even a little. I'm not all that fond of forests. So I was dubious. They assured me that the hikes were easy. There are about 4 trail heads. I'm a whiner when I hike. But they didn't steer me wrong. The trails were clear and the hikes didn't kill me and the scenery was beautiful. Now, at the end of August, there isn't much water running over the falls, and we could easily (getting our feet a little wet, walk across most of them, or at least hop around in them to explore the shallows. If only my nephew hadn't thought it was the greatest thing ever to run away from the group, hide and jump out and scare the snot out of us...it would have been better.It will depend on the time of year and the rainfall in that year as to whether or not the falls are dynamic or trickling. Spring run-off might be more dynamic.

Very "Oregonny" nature trail along side a beautiful creek. It features a suspended catwalk for a short distance along a small cliff about 12 - 15 feet above the creek. Easy beginning to intermediate hike.

We parked in the lower parking lot and walked up the trail past a series of falls. It can be quite slippery, so watch your step. There are wooden walkways with rails that hug the sides of the mountain/hill in some areas. The hike is 1 1/2 mile in each direction, for a total of 3 miles. I did see evidence of bear activity, so hiking with a partner or a group might be a good idea. Wear rubber soled trainers or hiking boots/shoes due to the wet conditions. It is a rain forest. No flip flops, sandals, or high heels.There is no water, only a 1 person pit toilet, and 1 picnic table at the lower parking lot. If you plan to bring a lunch, a waterproof pad or poncho to throw on the ground is a good idea. The scenery is wonderful.

A breathtaking place to visit. Easy hike along a short trail gets you to the lower view of the falls. Pack a lunch and dine on a rock while you listen to the roar of the falls.

I visited a friend in Reedsport, OR that drove me to Sweet Creeks falls, I loved the quietness and easy walk to the falls. I was there at the end of June and took some great pictures and will go back again. On our way out I was able to take a great picture of a bear sitting on the edge of the road. Love this place.

I have lived here 55 years in this area literally, and have never been here. It was awesome!!! My Husband and I visited on August 3, 2014 and their wasn't much water in the Falls, but I'm sure when there has been rain, it is much more beautiful! this will not disappoint! Only thing is, make sure you have toilet paper with you as there was none in the restroom! Bring something to keep your bottled water cold!! As it gets warm quick on a hot day! I loved it here! We will go back this Fall and Winter!! There are many areas along the trail to stop and eat a little lunch or snacks, and you can get down to the pools and water. Beautiful scenery for taking photos...I'm not sure if this is a fee area. We got a day pass at our local store just in case.

If you appreciate the gentle and shaded out-of-doors, then, Sweet Creek Falls is your kind of natural experience. The hike is not too strenuous-not too many ups and downs. The 2.4 miles is not even noticed because the scenery and coolness envelope you and ease you along. At one point, I attempted to count the number of waterfalls. Honestly, I lost count because I could not tell when one fall ended and another began. One could say at least a dozen. The moss and ferns are protected by the stately Douglas firs. My conclusion to you-enjoy every step. A quiet escape from some of the other area attractions.

Drove to the falls after reading trip advisor reviews. I can't understand how anyone would encourage a visit to this unnecessary destination. The hike was very short and the miniature falls we're extremely underwhelming. Save your gas, turn around, see anything else Oregon has to offer .

This hiking trail is kind of in the middle of nowhere. The trail is very well maintained and beautiful for entire way. I didn't notice much of an elevation climb/ change. The trail starts at Homestead Trail Head and end at the lovely Sweet Creek Falls. Take a dip- it's cold, but not brutal.

This was a little side trip inland from the coast but a nice change of view from the ocean. 11 different falls and very easy to moderate hike. well maintained trail with steel overhangs that make for a different hiking experience. A good day hike with elementary age kids.

I was skeptical while taking my friends after a recent injury. I could not hike. Someone had written about a fall around every corner. They were being literal. I could not stop walking on. Its so subtle, there are metal crossings at rough edges, it's designed as an easy hike. i saw kids swim in the pools. plenty of room for everyone to pause and enjoy. it is the most beautiful place in oregon, as it is to hike, it is breath-taking, it allows you to touch and feel and embraces you. I found the directions on traveloregon website. It is to miss the turn just before mapleton. beautiful drive. i could not find it on google maps as a "place".

This trail is beautiful! Definitely recommend taking the hike that winds along the creek for a mile before Sweet Creek Falls. Green, cool on a warm day, and fun for kids. Bridges to cross, rocks to climb, waterfalls to see. We went on the fourth of July and saw people of all ages enjoying the trail. Don't be detoured by the fact the trailhead is 10 miles off Hwy 126...the drive is easy and pretty. It is well worth the short little drive.

Fairly easy hike with a great trail and railings in certain areas. The trees were so green and the water from the falls echoed along the trail. No bugs on the trail! Just a hidden gem that I am sure many people pass by because it is a 10 mile drive off the many highway. Loved it!

Sweet Creek Falls is a hidden gem. It's about 19 miles off of Hwy 126, tucked up Sweet Creek Road. Note that until summer of 2013 there are major restrictions on traffic movement with long road closures as they repair a slide that took half the road into the river. It's still worth it.An easy trail with well built boardwalks that take you right along the creek. Cool and lush on a warm sunny day. Several pools along the path invite you to jump in and cool off if you are so inclined. Save that for July and August as it is cool most of the rest of the year.There are still a few old growth cedars mixed among the second growth forest and eviednce of ancient olgging techniques where two men notched a giant cedar to climb it to cut it down by hand. Because it is off the beaten path, it is rarely crowded. Definitely worth a detour if you are driving to or from Florence.
