Roseburg, Oregon has a hidden gem that many people don't know about. The Douglas County Master Gardeners have designed and created the most wonderful garden that has a variety of mini-gardens to delight just about anyone. Some examples include an interactive children's area, a Japanese garden, a butterfly garden and a vermicomposting area that explains how plants and worms work together to break trash down into beautiful compost. Other areas include a rock garden with native plants from all over the world, a rose garden and a xereoscape (low water) garden. The Master Gardeners also cultivate a huge Victory Garden in the spring and summer and donate all the food they grow to the local food bank. The Discovery Garden is located next to the Twin Rivers RV Park and adjacent to a county park. If you have dogs, there are great walking areas. Att Christmas they have a Festival of Lights in the park area.

This garden is a treat for all seasons, but of course between the months of May and October it's at its best. There is a garden for everyone here waiting for you to discover: Japanese garden; Children's Garden; Xeriscape Garden; Composting; Worm Bins; and much much more.

Nice garden & a welcome addition to the area. Kudos to those who put this together. However, our very first visit at 2:30 on a Sunday in September did not go well. We were chased away by the grounds keeper. She came in, easily seeing we were there, and turned on all the sprinklers. It's really difficult to walk through the garden when you didn't realize bathing suits were a requirement. She never spoke, no kind words or otherwise as to why she & her pit bull were forcing us out. The open time listed was dawn till dusk. I'm quite sure dusk doesn't happen at 2:30 PM.

Enjoyed a walk through this small venue developed by master gardeners. Flowers, trees, shrubs, a Japanese Garden, and a children's area are featured within this small venue. We enjoyed a stroll and it's only a few minutes from I-5's exit 125.

If you would like to spend a relaxing time in a well maintained garden this is the place for you. It has been developed and maintained by the Douglas County Master Gardeners for the benefit of the public. It has been gaining recognition by the visiting of RVers that stay in the park across the street. Many of them say they come to that park just to experience the garden. For a special treat visit the garden during the spring and summer on Tuesdays and watch the Master Gardeners at work. One of them will probably volunteer to give you a guided tour of the garden. If you are interested in group tours or more information call the Douglas County Oregon State University Extension Office.
