Drove through the park to check it out for a possible future camping trip. Cabins are available. It looked like a nice place to camp.

Such a pleasant park for walking and hiking! The breeze in the pines was so relaxing! Of course this fall, the weather has been magnificent! Besides walking and hiking, one can stay in cabins or camp in the well maintained campgrounds. Another plus are the new handicapped accessible restrooms in at least two of the campgrounds. There is concrete parking by the restrooms which are clean and very usable for someone in a wheelchair.

This is a beautiful park with many lovely paths and drives. I also love the old feel of the cabins. I absolutely HATED the new cabins at Ponca State Park!!! I didn't feel like I was on a park holiday at all. At Chadron, I really felt like I was 'roughing it' in a delightful old cabin with a fireplace and lots of atmosphere. Do NOT replace these cabins with modern houses that we already live in...please!!!

We spent the weekend at Chadron State Park in one of their duplex cabins. I was disappointed to find satellite TV and internet, but my boys were happy. If you are a clean freak, this may not be for you. We had a mouse or rat get into our van and clean up after the kids. Lots of great trails for us to take the dogs with us on. The Trading Post was were my husband and oldest son spent most evenings. They were able to do archery and tomahawk throwing for $1.50 for 30 minutes. They even had figurines for the kids to paint. The frisbee golf course was the best one I've ever played! The trail to Lookout point is a must do! We timed it so we were up there at sunset. You can see all the way to the Black Hills of South Dakota. Amazing.
