hilltop mall

We stopped after dinner to have a comfortable place to walk around. This is a very small mall as is fitting for the size of the community. It is clean and there were not many vacant storefronts. Probably would stop there again if the weather required an indoor place for a walk.

Not a bad little mall. A few years ago, I would have thought the place was going to close, but it has done all right. The anchor stores (Herberger's and Penny's) do all right, and the selection of clothing stores (Gap, Old Navy, Buckle, etc.) is pretty solid, if unspectacular. Surprisingly, Imperial Palace Chinese Restaurant draws a pretty impressive crowd for weekday lunch, as does the pretzel store.What makes me glad is seeing that they've been able to keep a bookstore - the locally owned Sequel Bookshop that competes with Amazon and company by offering deep discount books and local connections, including signings by Nebraska authors like Alex Kava and Carolyn Scheidies. (Neither of these is a favorite of mine personally, but I was able to snag an nifty book on Hindu folklore by a top scholar for five bucks, and their Everyman and Dover Thrift books are a cheap way to bring home the classics - so there really is something for everyone.) Another unique - and, it seems, enduring - store in the mall is Grow Nebraska, featuring local products like food and crafts. The mainstream stores make this a three-star mall; the local options push it into four-star territory, which is not bad for a place I was certain would close a few years ago.

Average stores you would find in a mall. Would like to see more unique or interesting stores. The area is kept clean and generally speaking people are friendly. There is a place to grab a quick bite and there are restrooms available. If you enjoy shopping this would be a good place to visit.
