Very interesting step back in time to see and experience Placer County's history...interactive, informative, great docent. Don't miss the sheriff's office and ladies' cells under the stairway. We felt our age at the development of technology exhibit showing the "old" computer of 1981!

Free museum! It's small, but quite informative, and the person working there was friendly. It talks about more than just the gold mining aspect and goes into the highways coming in and technology as well. Take a few minutes to see what it's all about!

This is a terrific museum for people who are interested in the history of the Auburn/Sacramento area and the people who came here to forge a new life. You'll be glad you came. And it is free!

If you are curious about the gold rush and the 49ers you have to see this museum. It will give you that special walk through history like no other can.

This small museum is delightful. Our kids loved it and actually asked to visit the museum a second time. A lot of it had to do with the great friendly staff. We highly recommend this museum.

Make the time to visit the museum in the historical courthouse. It really helped us to understand the surrounding area and Hwy 49 much better.

This is the main Historical Museum for Placer County. It has an overview of the history from prehistoric fossils to the building of roads over the Sierras that pass through town. Native Americans, Gold Rush Days, settlement, communication, transportation, it's all there. Historic Sheriff's Office down the hall, and a women's jail cell under the stairs, lots to see. One of the main accomplishments of The Placer County Museums is Heritage Days which is an annual affair over a weekend in early August each year. This museum and 18 others in the county from Roseville to Tahoe are open both days. Many small museums that are rarely open manage to make it open that weekend. A free guide is available for that event.

Located in the County Courthouse, I especially liked the painting done by Kinkade. They also have a vault with gold in it....since Auburn is a mining town. There is also a room where a policeman was known for solving a lot of crimes/murders in the town. All the paperwork is still on the bulletin board. Finally, you can self guide yourself thru the museum.....simple and well done.

The museum is small, but has a number of interesting exhibits from the history of Placer County. My kids enjoyed playing with the old phones and checking out the exhibits.

The museum is located in the Placer County Courthouse which is an interesting building in itself. The museum has much to offer guests interested in the California Gold Rush Era. At the time I visited it was free with donations accepted. On Saturday mornings at 10 AM there is usually a free historical walk of Old Auburn.
