westover vineyards

We passed Westover on the way to Chouinard about a month ago and promised ourselves we'd come back for one of their advertised free wine tastings.Promise yourself the same thing. Right now.They have two options: You can either taste a selection of their reds and whites, or you can taste the same number of their ports, which is their specialty. We went for the standard option, but I'd definitely recommend their ports, even to someone unsure about their feelings towards port.Their wines are great, but the highlight was the people, the service, and the conversation. The location is gorgeous, especially on a beautiful, sunny day like when we were there.We got a bottle of their double chocolate port, which they actually made by accident but has since become deservedly award-winning... And Westover: whenever you bottle that 12-year tawny port, give me a call!

My husband and I visited Westover this past weekend. It was a very friendly and inviting expierence. When we were leaving, the owner was out, and came up and introduced himself, then proceeded to talk with us for a bit. The wines are good and fairly priced. If your into Ports, they have a large variety. It is not your fancy type winery, down to earth and fun. You could bring a picnic and enjoy the beautiful scenery. We will be going back, and hope to bring some friends along.

My wife and I as well as a number of friends and relatives have visited Westover Winery on multiple occasions without negative experience. We've all found the wine to be acceptable though not necessarily outstanding and the people we've met there including ownership to be engaging hosts.

If you visit this winery, be sure not to give them your credit card number and don't sing up for the "cow club" wine buying program. They will not send the wine to you but will continue to charge you. What a waste of good money. I finally had to drive up from southern california to collect my wine after 9 months of waiting. Furthemore, they promised to send it to me and never did. They wouldn't cancel my standing order and kept charging me. I finally had to cancel my credit card becuase they are so unreliable, or maybe it is just dishonesty rather than stupiditiy.
