There's plenty to like about the tiny Folsom Zoo. You don't spend much, you can see the whole thing in an hour, if you walk slowly. If you're local, you don't have to drive far. And all the animals are rescues, which is nice. Educational and informative. Great place to take small children especially, as they will see plenty of fun stuff and have their fill without tiring you out or breaking the bank. If you go with the understanding that it's a small town zoo, you won't be disappointed.

All the animals have been rescued, you can see a wide variety from monkeys, to bears, skunks, lions, and many more. Beautiful peacocks roam around with tail feathers fanned. Great place to take children. Afterwards just outside is a train to ride. The conductor will take your photo, and adjust your digital camera to the correct settings (bonus for those who are not that camera savvy).

If you're not aware, the Folsom Zoo is a bit different than most zoos. All of the animals at the zoo were rescued, not captured or bought. This means you'll see a different assortment of animals than a regular zoo, and it's part of the beauty of the place. Each animal has a plaque explaining how and why it came to the zoo. Some of the stories are inspiring, others heartbreaking. There's a wide variety of animals, and the zoo is designed so that you get to see them all in a single walk-through.It's a terrific place, and a visit really does help you appreciate animals more.

This is a sweet little local zoo - just a few dollars to get in and it's very nice. Go here about twice a year.

What a lovely hour or so we spent at the Folsom animal sanctuary with our grandchildren. This is not a large zoo, so don't go there expecting that. It is a home where injured and suffering animals have been taken in and are nursed back to health in a safe environment. There are quite a few animals and yet they are not over crowded in their areas of containment. The kids had a great time and I believe this whole sanctuary runs on donations and admission funding. There is a small park attached to the Zoo with a couple great play ground and picnic areas for the family. There Train ride outside of the zoo area is not to be missed either. For $3 each you and your children can enjoy a small scenic ride around the zoo area and park. Then after your visit, head down to Old town Folsom and enjoy an ice cream cone at Snooks Chocolate Factory on Sutter Street.

This zoo has been around since I was a kid and it's the best little zoo. If you don't won't to drive out of town or want to walk for hours go to this one. It has a great variety of animals to keep your interest in half the time. Take your kids or grandkids on the train ride. It's all in a great park setting.

We visited on a Saturday afternoon and were kind of disappointed because a lot of the animals were sleeping. But we were able to see quite a few while walking around. I enjoyed seeing the peacocks roaming around the zoo. They were gorgeous! My favorite part was the bears. A couple were sleeping, but close to the front of the exhibit so we could see them clearly. The zoo is fairly small, but has a nice variety of animals. After we got there, we noticed they have a special thing in the evenings this time of year (December). We probably should have waited and come back in the evening to see all the lights. You can tell Folsom really supports them because there were a bunch of trees decorated by different groups and businesses from the area.

This zoo is larger than you would think. Take the time to read each animals story because that is the reason this zoo is special and amazing. Every time I go, I continue to be amazed and am so proud to show it off to visitors.

When visiting Folsom it's a nice place if you just want to spend part of your day at a zoo. Not too big. They have done a lot of remodeling. The gift shop is small but, nice and there's even a snack bar and park for the kid's.

This animal rescue aka zoo is a good value. Much more so than the Sacramento Zoo. More animal variety, picnic tables nearby, and a kid size train! In the hotter months, go early so you wont catch the animals napping. Fee is $5 or $6 for adults; children $1 less. Very family affordable.

This little gem is tucked away in Folsom, and a surprising number of locals don't even know it is there. The zoo grounds are a little more than 4 acres, and all the animals are rescued. Many people may think that animals belong in the wild, not in zoos, but that would not have been an option for these critters. Their choices were pretty much to go to this zoo, or be put down. Though small, all the habitats and residents seem well taken care of. Because it is small, its ideal for younger family members. Staff is very helpful and friendly. There is a cute little train for the little ones to ride on. A picnic area is adjacent, and a small snack bar. A wonderful excursion for young folks of any age.

Was better than what I had expected. I came on a hot day in July so many of the animals were not out, so I would recommend coming early in the day.

Folsom City Zoo is one of my favorites. Though it is small and will likely not keep you busy all day, I find it soulful. There are not many exhibits but the ones that are there were created and are maintained with care. They are large enough for the animals to hide and move around. Love the stories of the animals as well, especially if they've been rescued. The library is near, this will also give you a wonderful place to go to (provided it is open). I am looking forward to me next visit ... not for new stuff or excitement, but for the peace and the great feel of it.

The Folsom City Zoo was a pleasant surprise. Many more "zoo" type of animals than I expected to see, including tigers, wolves, bears, parrots, hawks, foxes, Zebus, monkeys and deer. No reptiles, although there are displays showing painted plaster replicas of snakes. Nearly all the animals have been rescued -- some were pets and others were injured by wildfires or otherwise unable to return to the wild. I was impressed by the zoo's efforts to house the animals in enclosures that mimic their natural settings as much as possible. While we walked the zoo grounds, we observed numerous staff cleaning cages, feeding animals and interacting with the animals. Near the zoo's entrance is a small-scale train that carries passengers on a short loop. Fun for kids and adults!
