We have visited wineries with wine we like better but never received the royal treatment by a family member who remember the old days told us great stories and took great care of us.

With a distinct Italian feel about it, the winery was superb - second visit in the last 6 years and well worth it

Delicious but more traditional wines. The people there are very friendly and the tasting experience harkens back to the 1960s in Napa. Their dessert and sweet wines are especially delicious. We have friends from 50 miles away come to buy them here. One of five or six different wineries within a three mile radius which have terrific wines and rustic settings with an opportunity to chat with the owners or winemakers on a casual basis.

Hecker Pass Winery is owned and operated by Sicilian octogenarian, Mario Fortino, just a few yards from the Fortino Winery, owned and operated by a relative. The tasting room is small, not full of kitschy stuff to buy...just wine to taste. Mario holds down the fort weekdays, a very pleasant woman on weekends. Mario also grows great oranges and over 100 tomato plants in his personal garden, I was told, spitting distance from the tasting room.Tasting is free, but you are asked to limit yourself to five from the two dozen offered, virtually all reds. The merlot, zin, carignane and petite sirah were all good; but the Chianti took the prize for me. Old school--definitely not a Robert Parker overripe fruit-bomb, 12.5% alcohol, like they all were until Parker came along and so many winemakers chose to follow his palate, like so many sheep. Twenty Bucks. Such a deal!

The thing you have to love about this pace is the wine maker himself pours the wine. Had a great visit to this place. I was not crazy about some of the wine, but i loved the expearance. I did buy a bottle. Its so hard not to. If in the area stop in and give it a try.

Really nice dessert wines..and special cooking wines like Marsala and ports.

This is our "go-to" winery for excellent value and tasty, every day wines. Chianti is very good. Also try their port! Very much a family run operation and low-key. Enjoy!

Don't let the neon sign deter you-- this humble winery is hosted by a wonderful family who craft their wines with their local customers in mind. The delicious wines have more integrity than most Napa varieties because this craft has been in their family for generations, and not one of the family members would let their love of hand-crafting beautiful wines go by the wayside. Crlo gave us a personal tour and nearly brought tears to my eyes with his loving and proud approach to his wines. I quickly singed up to be a member of their wine club. I look forward to going back.
