Of course it's best when we don't have a drought going on, but Purisima is a very pleasant, decently challenging 18 holes. The cool breeze always coming in from the west makes it easy to spend a whole day out there getting plenty of exercise. Decent driving range and a very pleasant little cafe, maybe more like a mini-cafeteria. I can't wait till we get enough rain for it to turn green again!

challenging course, excellent condition, tough greens and great layout.......good for all golfers if you play from the tees appropriate for your handicapwill happily return to play there again

This was one of the hardest courses I've played in California. Narrow in spots, tons of sand traps - deep ones, too, and lots of places to lose wayward balls. Weather in the morning is perfect, beautiful layout, well maintained. When you're ready to challenge yourself, this is the place!

What a beautiful course! We really enjoyed spending our afternoon at the pristine golf course. Besides the winds blowing like crazy, its well worth the stop and play!

I have played this course dozens of times and find it always thrilling to play. fantastic property with wonderful holes, many unlike those you have played before; Nos. 2, 5, 7, 8, 11, 12, 14(you know it is coming from the time you are on the first tee), and the closing holes, always into the winds.shoot your handicap and you are playing better than you can play.the new owners look committed to not only maintain, but to improve the experience.only negative: they no longer share the player's club certificates with hunter ranch. this will cut down on the frequency that we play here.

long par fives. excellent layout of green and very challenging. don't forget to get a little snacky snacky from the latina that works the grill on the 10th hole. The food is not exceptional, but her attitude will spice your back 9 up.

The price is hard to beat and the course is very pretty. It is not an easy course but not crazy hard either. It is worth the drive to play. Note that this part of the country is presently in a drought so the course is not in ideal conditions. Having said that, it has held up well and not presently necessary to wait on rain to play here.

I've played La Purisima a number of times and I've always enjoyed it but also agree with others that it's very difficult to score low here. Lots of narrow openings, sloping fairways, and tricky approach shots, combined with afternoon windy conditions, make it an exciting test of one's golf abilities. The course was recently sold, and there is the appearance of some improvements. New golf carts now are available, and some landscaping work has begun. The cart paths need a lot of work - we felt as though we were four-wheeling rather than navigating a golf course. The driving range needs upkeep. The last thing is the first thing. When we arrived at 9:15am on a Saturday for our 9:45am tee time, we were looking for a cup of coffee to get our morning started. The restaurant advised that the coffee machine broke three days prior. Suggestion to management - go buy a $30 Mr. Coffee and offer your golf visitors a hot cup of coffee upon arrival!

Played La Purisima for the first time yesterday. It is a very unique and challenging design with a lot of elevation changes and occasional water hazards. It is a course where local knowledge would be helpful as it is often not obvious what dangers lurk in the distance. The course is a little rough around the edges but the greens and fairways were in excellent condition. It was a calm day but I understand that it can be quite windy at times which would increase the difficulty. It is a course I would definitely want to play again if I am in the area, especially if I could duplicate the great weather of yesterday.

This is a great, challenging course for golfers of all capabilities. There are the usual ladies tees and the Red, White, Blue and LONG Black tees. Challenging.

This is a well maintained and very challenging golf course. The slope rating tell on part of the tale. If you haven't played here before then be prepared for a very humbling experience. The rough can be totally unforgiving, the wind adds an unexpected hurdle and the greens are slippery and treacherous. Bring extra balls, but don't be surprised if you play only one ball but finish 10 strokes over your handicap. GOOD LUCK!!

There is more than one reason this course is nicknamed "La Piranha". I play here at least a couple of times per year and always enjoy the condition and layout of the track. Be ready, however, to play in stiff, if not outright windy, conditions. The day we played the winds were a consistent 25 mph gusting to 35. Don't be deterred...as it is a really fun, quality course on which to spend a few hours.

This course has been rated the 33rd most difficult in the U.S. by ESPN. If that is the case, I'd hate to play the top 32! Long course with only 2-3 holes I would classify as easy. Narrow fairways, rolling hills, deep difficult bunkers, it all adds up to a tough day on the course. However, it is more than worth it. There aren't too many more beautiful courses that I have seen, and I've played a lot. It's rarely ever busy here, which makes standing on the tee box on #6 and looking back at the rest of the course even more amazing. A couple of my favorites were #8, a downhill curving hole coming back towards the highway that is reachable with a well-placed tee shot and a long iron, and #12, with the tee shot over a pond and a long narrow entryway to a well-gaurded green in the trees. Highly recommended. It's not the score that counts here, but the enjoyment of a beautiful day on the links.

There are not too many golf courses in the San Luis Obispo/Santa Barbara county area, but the PGA used La Purisima a few years ago for a qualifying round. Great views with no homes in sight. Long fairways, deep bunkers and a good workout if you are walking. It's best in fall, winter and spring, and best in the morning. You don't want to play this when the wind comes up. Just west of Bulleton and east of Lompoc in the popular Santa Rita Hills wine region of Santa Barbara County. There a lots of places to stay in Solvang.

Although we are not golfers, we do go here for lunch. Nice golf course views, good sandwiches, very casual, way better than "fast food".
